and this isn't in hardcore because????

I wanted to do running and driving tests on everything else before I decided to spend more time and money on the 6x drive.

The magic of this truck is that the air bags are weighted 90 10 with all weight on middle axle until you put n a trailer.

IT PARKS LIKE A LANDCRUISER with a 112 wheel base then when you tow it has 150 wheel base.

Yes, shakedown to correct or chatch any loose ends is critical.

Some of my friends work at GM proving ground had drive new veheiles on thier tracks all days 7 night, a very boring but critical job. Once they met thier mileage goal, they took the car apart with torque wench so they know if bolts gets loose or not. Very detailes & documented. You don't have the same luxury, hope all goes well down the road.

I am not sure what splitter axle mean.

The 90/10 weight ratio make sense but same ratio goes for the braking power, too?

Does the brake power changed to 50/50 once the trailer is on?

Regards,

I'm know I'm a little late to the party, but that is SWEET!!!!

yes shakedown is critical we are very careful and go out in buillding increments of difficulty as to weight curves traffic etc. about 20 trips around the block ( with no muffler my neighbor love me) in 1st 2 weeks then 5 miles down to buddies house then out to town 10 miles twice for dinner and then across town in traffic for a whole day of errands then some towing as you saw.- next will be a foothills run up the mountian 1st without and then with a 9000 lb trailer.
each day we list any problems and resolve then go out again. problem wise we are down to hooking up the climate control sensor and a bad dome light switch and we keep blowing intercooler hose because we bought cheapo hose, (fu**ing ebay) oh well. overall testing is going very good we are changing around some bushings on panhard rods and laying down final big beads of welds and braces to everything we need to for towing big stuff, as i have determined that I like it and it drives well.
you asked- splitter box as in an extra t case divorced and reversed that splits out the rear tranny output to 2 axles. have some other things up my sleeve to power last axle but waiting till it happens to annouce.
there is a brake bias knob that can be turned up manually to the last axle when a trailer is put on.
Thanks for the interest I am sure there are things that apply to building any truck in here such as the shakedown I have shown up in moab 3 times with a vehicle that hadnt been driven for more than 5 minutes DONT DO IT!

we have just been involved with a vehicle here running 80 series running gear, manual box, and chassis, 75 series tray body, with custom 4 link front and a frome rear, but cruiser rear diff, and front axles swivels etc, but nissan patrol centre, which is making 440kw [600hp]and 1000nm [740 ft lbs] @ the rear wheels running 35's and the drive train is holding up very well.

We dont get the duramax here, which is what I have been wanting to fit to my current vehicle.

Very kool. Amazing build. I am anxiously awaiting photos of build.

The Duramax/Allison combo is a very impressive diesel power combo. I am still in the dreaming stage but like very much the idea of having one in my Toy 80. I am curious as to whether or not it will even fit? If not would a 1 or 2" body lift help? Maybe the tranny tunnel would have to be enlarged?

Darren,
I am unfamiliar with the power handling capabilites of the 80 running gear. How would ARBs do with this kind of power?

Thanks, Bret

there will soon be a bolt in kit for this Duramax to 80 or 100. WIll likely require 4" of body lift or custom hood. Everything fits not even close. You would have to love your truck though the only way to make it run is to buy a complete chevy/GMC truck to get all harnesses which make this motor tranny t case at least 10K a bargain if you ask me 700 lbs torque!!!!
I believe the 80 running gear and 100 running gear and tcase will hold the torque but respect the tow ratings thats where the heat comes in.
I am not producing the kit but I'll post a link whenit comes available. It will join allison trans and cruiser t case

I SAW YOU on Highlands Ranch Pkwy this week! I did a double take.
BTW- meaning to ask this. Are you storing a parts truck at Blade Runners on Sante Fe?

Thanks for the info. I know that Mark's Adapters is currently in the process of installing a Duramax in a 100(looks like someone's got 'em beat ;)), but they haven't released any specific info.

I already had it in my mind that the conversion would realisticly require a wrecked GM truck. It sure would be nice if there was a carbon fiber hood made available (It wouldn't be a bad thing to save 20-30lbs on the hood). I understand that group orders can help to facilitate tooling for such, but how many 80 or 100 owners are going to want to do this conversion? 20 for either might be a stretch. Probably just have to carefully mod the stock hood.

So it would be the extra heat generated from towing heavy loads that could break the drivetrain. That sounds like an issue worth exploring(even though I doubt I would ever tow much beyond the stock rating). How much does using synthetic fluids help in running cooler? What would the weakest links be from excessive heat when pushing tow capabilities? T-case?

Ied take a custom carbon fiber hood....just for the heck of it too! But it has to have Ram-Air inlets built in so i can let my 2uz-fe breath cooler.

just saw the buggy on ebay and found this thread after a quick search. great work!

how's the tow rig working out? it's been over a year now. is the trans holding up ok? did you beef it up any? i have a couple of buddies who have gm tow rigs with the duramax and allison combos. their rigs are slightly modded and they're having lots of transmission issues with them. spending $7k on a built allison seems to be the only cure.
just one of the reasons i bought a cumins with a 6pd standard behind it....

once again, great work and very cool ideas! not too many guys have the creativity and ability to actually build things like this!

How about an update? did the 6wd ever get worked out?

Any update on this guy

I think he's in Central America drinking Guaro and coming up with new ideas. The boy has never been (at least since I've know him) right and that's the reason I like him but he does do a very thorough job and ensures that every aspect is way above what the OEM concept is/was.

Cheers Snr Podvin.

Anyone kknow whaere these rigs ended up?
