damn man i want more pictures that thing is nuts!

Great work man i love it.

The neighbors sure must talk about you Alan :)

Are both rear axles driven? How does that work? Did you use the 100 series frame or a domestic truck frame? Very cool project.

Is it the way the pic is taken, or do I detect some rear steer on the back axle?

You asked about surf and turf- I am not sure for surf and turf have to work. If I took this truck it would have to be good on all its test drives for the next few days. I have 2 other tow rigs so I could still go.
You called them masterpieces the ideas and the fun factor may be a masterpiece but the trucks are far from it. These are barely street legal prototypes built for the least amount of money possible made to look and work as good as possible without spending a stupid amount of time on them. My idea is 2 fold spend more time wheeling them than it takes to build /maintain them and dont make them so perfect/overbuilt/overwelded that you cant change/adjust things and not so perfect that if it rolls you will cry. Mostly they are made to have fun in and get work done not for the car show. -Alan

Alvin,

I am glad to see the opening between the cargo bed and the body. The extended UZJ100 frame (if it is), no matter how stiff, will flex under the extreme condition.

I won't name the other TLC truck that has been converted with cargo bed but instead of apart, it is merged with rest of the body. I may be wrong but it did seems to cause a mini-buckled on the side due to lack of upper pillars to absorb the bending stress under extreme condition.

I am amazing by looking at the back side that comes with extra wheel flare! Awesome design and body work!

Cheers,

That "other" truck didn't buckle there. That knot on the side was the body guys fault. It has been there since day 1. On the 100 Ute though, you may see flex because that rear axle is so far back. I am sure Alan made it soft enough where it will just move with the terrain easily for now.

More Pictures

here are a few more full body shots
Thank You to my wife's cousin Matt for helping build and doing most the wiring. Some of you will see Latt around I let him wheel the open top on a decent colorado trail (Holy Cross) and now he's hooked.
This truck was done in a 2 car garage with a welder and a plasma cutter and alot of sawzall blades.
I personally welded every body piece on the truck. It is all steel you can find welds if you know where to look, so it is not perfect. Its exacty as i wanted, the cush and quiet of lexus and the power of big diesel.
Well back to work on todays trouble shooting list-
May we all enjoy each others quest to build our pefect toyotas whether it be a new cup holder or a total custom 6x6.
May we bring new freinds and family to our sport of fun and freindship to enjoy gods creations in the back country.
wait till you see whats next!!

Wow, from one fab guy to the next, thats amazing work. I absoultly love the thing, I'd take that anyday over a diesel truck from one of the big 3. If I could change one thing it would only be one thing, OEM wheels that are beadlocked and powdercoated black, or better yet a set of black 19" evan walkers would completely set that truck over the top. I know it doesnt need beadlocks, but hey, it doesnt need 20s either, its all about looks. Job well done, thats amazing. Please post up some details on the frame and drivetrain work. And I hope you have something great planned in terms of a front bumper, if you design that as good as the rest of the truck, im sure it will make it look even better.

It's my first time in the 100 section and this is the first thread I read.

Man what a ride ya got there. Bloody top work mate.

IMO the wheels and tyres don't fit the picture, but like I said nice work.

I'm hangin to see wot ya cover the intercooler with.

the 9" you are refering to is done by USA 6x6. I contacted them and their designer manufacturer and the 9" is not strong enough to handle the duration of torque while pulling the 30K trailer I have. We are using a spiltter instead.
I wanted to do running and driving tests on everything else before I decided to spend more time and money on the 6x drive.

The magic of this truck is that the air bags are weighted 90 10 with all weight on middle axle until you put n a trailer.

IT PARKS LIKE A LANDCRUISER with a 112 wheel base then when you tow it has 150 wheel base.
