Hey Guys,

I left my lights on and when I went to jump it off, I switched the positive and negative terminals (the felt insulators are swapped on my terminals, but I know... I should have looked at the battery markings, not the felt color).

A little smoke came off, and I quickly removed the jumper cables. They were very hot. I swapped the cables, waited a few minutes, and went to crank. The starter sounds like its turning just fine, but it won't start. The accessories seem to come on strong, but it won't fully start.

I'm about to get a ride back up to my cruiser to try and look it over again. I've searched the forum and it looks like I need to check the fusible links coming off of the cables leaving the battery terminal.

Is there anything else? Fuses in the fuse box?

Thanks so much!

I would start with the fuses... Do you have a spare EFI?

Also fusible links, hopefully no issue with your alternator...

The fuses in the fusible links, or fuses in the fuse panel? If fuses in the panel, any one in particular?

The only EFI i know is an electronic fuel injector; probably not what you meant, right?

Sorry for all the dumb questions, and thanks for your response

Fusible links are the smaller (not to the starter) wires coming off your + terminal on your battery.

If they look ragged and fried, that's (hopefully) your problem... a pretty cheap fix part.

i did this once and it was the fusible link

The check engine light should come on if the computer is getting power when the key is turned "on" before hitting the starter position. The fusable links are the three colored wires which come off of the battery terminal and the little black plastic box. They may looked burned or they may have burned up inside the insulation. An OHM meter will tell you if they are still good.
