quick question does the lower coyote canyon creek have water flowing at this time of year or will it be dry?
until what month will there be water?

There was water a month ago and I'd venture to guess there is still water running. No problem driving thru it tho. First time I went up it I was a bone stock cruiser w/o sliders. Yours may come in handy!

There is pretty much water year around, but they close the gate at the second crossing from June 1 to Oct. 1 (to save the animules, from us humins), so you might have to walk to the third crossing in summer to find a pool.

thanks for the replies
hoping to get out there but my a/c is doing something funny

I was there on wednesday. There is a good amount of water in the creek at the third crossing, little at the second, and the first is almost dry. less water than I have seen in the previous 4 years though.
Up in the canyon there is good flow.

The trail is in good shape, and was not a problem with a BJ70 on 33s. The biggest obstacle is further up, where there is a steep sandy dropoff. I don't think I could get back up there without a locker, so I did not try.

oh, it was already pretty hot at noon.

well the family and I did coyote canyon today.
yes the second and third water crossing was good, the first one wasn't shabby but it was my first trip.

man those rocky sections kicked my inexperienced butt-the cruiser was capable but as a driver I wasn't.
I went alone with my family and it if wasn't for my sliders there would have been some serious damage-got a little rock rash on the passenger back plastic moulding.
I say the cruiser was capable b/c I was cruising up following a x-terra. he seemed so much more smooth going up. I went passed the third rocky section but my wife's concerns sucked all the confidence out of me-we turned around. the second section with the ledge at the end you climb out of required some wheelspinning. I was getting hung up on my hitch and it shows-as well as the sliders-already paid for themselves.

fun fun fun-this will get my excited for at least one week just replaying it in my head

Great-My 16 year old son drove our 80 up there in Feb. Big fun! The rocks will test an unlifted/unlocked truck, but otherwise-no big deal. One of the guys with us took a stock '04 4-Runner up with basically no damage.

Your son was driving a 4" lifted truck and did fantastic for a new driver, and the 4runner had a superb spotter! :D

ugh yeah! I had no spotter. my wife got so worried she forgot she was filming and the last 3 minutes were of the floorboards.

Boy that road's changed. I remember doing that almost all the way to Anza in my Subaru ... back when the road was open all the way.
