Oh and I got a couple messages regarding how far does my bumper sticker out past stock. "It looks long" . I measured on this stock one and took pics. Mine only sticks out just under a 1/2" further than stock. And has a gain in clearance aside from obviously the stock receiver removal. And adds more protection below and around the tail lights. As the corners don't come in like the stock.View attachment 1298177 View attachment 1298178 View attachment 1298179My bumper has been out in the elements for 2 months. Excuse the patina..lol

Looks sick. Need to make this style into a 60 version.

Here is a breather relocation kit I'm putting together that will be for sale. It's going on the African truck build. And on mine

This was the first prototype. The second version has a different mount. It will mount high up under the hood on the drivers side firewall. The brackets will be a subtle clean satin black.

No problem. Keep me posted.

Hey I will be taking orders soon. I have an 80 series that was dropped off a week before I got sick. Its a low milage close to stock that I'm kitting out for an African trip.
Lift, tires, rear bumper, possibly a front bumper and a rack when it comes back. Relocating the breathers and addressing anything I find while doing the work. He already made a pretty nice rear drawer setup.
This was supposed to be a project I had two months to work on in between bumper builds and such. Well then as you all know I got sick. It is supposed to be finished by August 2nd. I started it last week. It's gonna be close as I'm not a 100% .
Then immediately after I have 4 rears to build. 2 of which have been waiting LONG before I even started the rear build.
As for fronts they go together fairly quick now as I've made quite a few and have the process pretty streamlined. Give me a couple weeks to see where I'm at and how many of the prior rear inquiries are still solid. Then I'll be doing a run of fronts again .

Thanks and sorry for the delay. The best I can do as its just me.

Rich

Just came across your work and gotta say none better. Awesome design, gorgeous welds, bitchin engineering . Been looking for something slimmer cleaner and better than ARB. Think i found. Will pm

looking forward to the rear bumper progress, any ideas on how you are going to mount mudflaps? I think i remember you saying they might be removable??

A quick shot of the rear. I'm still working now as its being picked up tomorrow and I still have to paint! I'll post more tomorrow and give full details. This one does not utilize the rotary latch on the swingout. It has a standard destaco 2k latch. It's leaving on a trip tomorrow and I didn't have time to finalize the rotary design. The main bumper is stout! And the swingout is very rigid. It also allows for storage behind the tire for straps or whatever. 9 quarts of oil fit in there. I'll show how and other features later. It's late I'm tired and have more to do! But I wanted to share...

Rich, the design of that swingout is definitely taking it up a couple of notches! Did you stick with bushings for the swingout pivot? Looks great!

That's really great work.

What are the chances you could make something that lacked the tow hitch, but didn't require cutting the rear crossmember? I don't tow anything and would love to have an option that would allow me to remove and keep the bumper if I decided to sell the truck.

Oh! I totally forgot.. I mentioned that I had an idea for the front and never followed-up since you weren't feeling well.

I think I recall you saying you'd considered selling the center section only as a starting point, and that gave me an idea.

What if you used your center section but made tube wings? I sense that tube bumpers aren't particularly popular in the FJ80 world, but I'm drawn to the simplicity and light weight. Something like the new Trail Gear front bumper, but with your center. I think your front is phenomenal and I'm saving up for one, but I thought I'd float the idea.

Also, glad you're feeling better. I went on a canoe trip through a swamp a couple weeks ago and covered myself with 99% DEET in your honor ;)

Thanks. The swingout design definitely forms a strong platform for the tire carrier. And the pivot utilizes dual trailer bearings that are a common off the shelf part. And the inner hubs that the bolt goes through are machined from stainless steel. It also has seals upper and lower. The pivots I buy from 4xinovations . They are the strongest and nicest double shear style I could find. I add a gusset down the side and shape/contour them a little to look nicer and be even stronger for my application.

The tire carrier design also allows for a storage option behind the tire. I could not cut out the holes along the bottom sides and add some expanded metal to create a floor and put a hinged door on that could double as a drop down table. And you would have a nice space to keep dirty straps or even vehicle fluids. It will fit 9 quarts of oil across that space. Or whatever you choose. The nut is captured under the pivot mount, so you can easily remove the arm from the bumper by removing one bolt and disconnecting the gas piston. All without having to go under the vehicle.
I'm very happy with the bumper and swing arm design. It's extremely strong and aesthetically appealing. I will have pricing in the next day or so and start building this week.

Hey man. All of your work looks great. I am super interested in the 80 rear bumper once it goes into production. Please let me know once you have general pricing. I'm in Denver Colorado.

You have any pictures of the steel rear bumper corners that would replace the factory corners? Really curious about this one.
Awesome work by the way your craftsmanship is on point!

Thank you and I will. I'm still working on the swingouts. Both with latching and placement of accessories.

Thanks
Rich

Unfortunately I do not. The corners how I wanted to do them was proving to be not very cost effective versus a complete bumper. So I put that on hold for now to focus on the full rear bumper and some other projects. But thank you for the kind words..

I really like your bumpers. My loyalties are to Jason aka Trail Tailor aka @reevesci but you are a close second.

I love seeing fabricators that build s*** that is designed well and strong. I'm not a fan of the stuff that looks cool but can't handle the abuse.

Hope you are feeling better.
