I say this only in the most non-smartass possible way - if you even consider the potential for one of those, perhaps it's the wrong vehicle. While that seems a restatement of THE answer, it's only meant to kindly suggest you're very likely gonna just extend the pain of ownership. If she and the kids need the space of a Honda van, they could very likely pile into a sturdier Outback w/o going full Cruiser. Our two grew up in old MB wagons and loved it; KA has the Outback today based on that experience, humming happily at over 100K Just saying.

Thoughts on extended dealer warranties? Got one, like um, think they are junk?

Wife has a honda van. Hit 60k and at ...... No kidding..... 60345 miles had engine light. Apparently ECO mode (gas saver 3 cylinder) causes excessive oiling and plugs get fouled..... Yet Honda doesnt cover it.

I know THE answer is "sell van, buy cruiser, when broke take to 49cruiser" however. What is your opinion on extended warranties?!
Never. From having worked in dealerships where people bought those things - and actually attempted to use them - the "warranty" companies will go to unreal lengths to deny claims. The ones sold through the actual manufacturers are better, but they still do what they can to avoid coverage........"deny until you die"

It's all a numbers game: what's the likelihood you're really gonna need to use an extended warranty on a Honda? Not much, so it's hard to see how you'd ever come out on it, because you're not likely to ever need it. Land Rover? It'd be worth every cent, but that's provided the company would pay.....which isn't likely.

Save your money.

Those Odyssey vans typically go 200-300k trouble free. That sucks.

I know. Thats why we bought it hopefully itll be a less expensive fix than im imagining.

I purchased one with the Mercedes Benz E320 CDI we bought in 2010. I was worried that I may not be able to handle some repairs here and the warranty might help. I was wrong. $1200 for some sweet Zerox paper...

I bought my 1998 4Runner in 1999 with 55K miles from Toyota of Irving (TX). I got "suckered" on the Toyota extended warranty for $800. It paid for itself when a wheel bearing went out at 70K miles...the tech at a Toyota dealership in Colorado Springs sucked at locating the issue and replaced the bearings on 3 corners before he found the culprit. In my old age, I would pass on any extended warranty for all of the issues cited above...I buy Toyotas to avoid issues that one needs a warranty for.

confirmation of why I don't stray from the sombrero......(and wife won't going forward)

freakin STEALERSHIPS!!!!

Wow, so Honda wanted $900:
$400 to resurface my rotors (Chris says it's less than half that, he could put new rotors on for almost that)
$400 for code p0401.....EGR valve....(how about we clean it out first boys....before throwing $400 at it and resetting a computer?!!! geeze)
$100 in fees and taxes

anyway, crisis averted.....for now.... @wct49 I'll be in touch later this week.

I know ya'll don't care about my van, it's more a public nod to a 2 minute conversation with Chris saving me $500 at a minimum

P0401 is likely clogged intake ports. As far as the brakes go, never go to the dealer for the repair. You can purchase oem parts but don't let them do the work.

Nothing wrong with a Honda, just the Honda dealership. Always prudent to take whatever make to Rob at 49

These are awesome. If I wasn't half drunk, I'd help come up with more.
