Can I convert my '95 wagon from full time to part time 4wd? I can lock the front center and rear duffs with an electric switch. Can I use Warn manual hubs?
Just want to increase on road MPG and when off road go to 4wd.

By the way, I saw Mr. IH8mud down here in Orlando in January I think. Know I know what I want my '95 to look like!

Can I install locking hubs on my 2000 land cruiser wagon?
Thanks!

Your '95 is an 80 series. There are plenty of great threads on part time conversions. In short, you can use Toyota hubs and the center diff.

And for your '00, you can install a part time kit, made by AVM.

As for both, the mileage increase vs. cost of install is a wash. Friend of mine went 2wd with his LC from UT to CA and back, saw about a 1-2mpg increase.

You will find much more info about your 1995 model in the 80 series forum. Yes you can convert it to part time, but many find it renders less than 1 mpg improvement. John

New owner dumb question: I thought since my lx 470 had a center diff lock, I was in 2wd all the time unless I hit lock. Is that not the case?

No, the center lock locks the center differential. It's full time 4WD. Understanding differentials is probably beyond the scope of a post.

You'd need to drive about 28,000 miles to pay back the $655, assuming an increase in mpg from 15 to 17 and $3 a gallon. No shipping or install.

If its only 1mpg, you're better off slowing down a bit.

The center differential allows power to be delivered to both axles all the time.

Or you could remove either your front or rear driveshaft and lock the center diff. Lol. Then you would be 2wd and have less drag.

That would be a PITA unless you never need 4wd. Plus most of the drag imo is slinging diff oil anyway...

Agree I can feel the difference when only my hubs are locked and unlocked without being in 4wd
