I've got my Delta controller on the way, along with a relay (and spare) so that I can wire in a master kill switch that'll also operate a red warning light so my dumb ass will know if/when the fan is killed. I just need to make a run to the local wrecker to get a fan, which I'll probably do tomorrow, and do up specs for an adapter plate so I can easily bolt the fan into place using my factory fan shroud mounting points. I figure 1/8" steel will be more than plenty for it.

Not a moment too soon either, as I think my fan clutch is giving up the ghost. My truck is starting to feel way gutless, the engine's staying cooler than normal, and I have the oh-so-lovely "jet engine spooling up" sound from under the hood even when things are plenty cool under there.

Dude,

1" square tube works beautifully for the adapter. Check my ROTW thread. I'm pretty sure there's a pic in there that shows it.

This worked super clean. 2 holes all the way through for the bracket to radiator and 2 big ass self tapping screws per side to hold the fans to the bracket. this worked sweet with only having to trim off a little bit of plastic at the tabs of the shroud. Paint it up and you'll never even see the square stock.

WOW, damn. That really is a clean install with the tubing. Do you remember what lengths you had it cut into?

I just cut them to fit at the shop. I think they were 15" or 16" if I remember right. I can measure tonight when I get home though. It'll be easy since it's all out of the truck right now. Radiator sprung a leak last weekend and the new one doesn't come in till tomorrow.

You can also just cut off the "ears" on the shroud and use angle iron/steel. I like the square tube though - maybe easier to mount the A/C drier bracket? I welded tabs onto the angle and mounted my drier bracket to that.

fan setup

see pics of my home brewed setup. Decided to get a new radiator (man-a-fre) aluminium + dual fans. I use "angle pieces" from Lowes...stuff you use to build shelfs for storage. I believe it was 1 inch angle. Trimed to fit profile of radiator.

I do like the 1 inch square tube setup... I may change mine before I get around to installing the assembly. On the one inch square setup I assume you drilled holes through the width of the tube and bolted to the radiator flange? Please post some more pics of your setup...I think I read where you said you had the radiator out of the truck now. Bman I think your setup is better....

THe aluminum radiator is close to the OEM setup but its not exact.... as far as thread inserts, but it looks like it will bolt in with no problems.

Sorry guys. forgot to take pics tonight. I'll get dressed and go get some. they won't be up until tomorrow night though.

Yes. I drilled all the way through both sides then tapped the fan side with a self tapper. You can see it better here:

I used the studs on the pass side so that I can mount up the ac dryer in the almost stock location.

Good idea on using the studs. I take it you got 'em at a local H/W store or CSK? Did you just use threadlocker to make the studs stay put in the stock shroud mounting points?

I'm thinking powdercoating might be a worthwhile expense to protect the tubing once it's drilled...

I had the studs laying around somewhere, but CSK should have something similar. Powder coat wouldn't hurt but a little rustoleum HD the job for me just fine. No thread locker... just some good old fashioned foot pounds.
