Wheels and tires ordered. Now I'm narrowing down my lift options here for the new to me Prado. I've been eying this kit from Toytec.

TTBOSS-GX470K - Toytec Boss Suspension System for 03-09 GX470

Easy all in one package including the front diff drop kit.

This vehicle will mostly be a daily driver and won't see much off road time unless I feel adventurous.

Others using this kit please chime in with experiences. Thanks!

Hi, I don't have the lift you're looking at but, if you're only looking for a bigger tire and not planning to off-road it much, I'd say you can go with a much less expensive option. Also, in my research and now in my experience , the diff drop is not necessary with only a 2" lift. I did about that much and my axles look pretty good with no diff drop. I think I saw in another thread that you were thinking about 2 inches of lift, so apologies if that is off base. Also, in that price range I think you have a few decent options (if you do want to spend that much) but I'm pretty sure that's covered in threads you've already read. Good luck with the build, looking forward to pictures!!

Appreciate the reply friend. I settled on 265/70/17's for tires. I want to do a 2-3" lift. Been checking various options and there are many. Confusing actually...but I'll figure it out. Certainly open to suggestions. I'll keep reading and see what I come with.

The Prado will also get an all out SQ audio install like my van prior. That's the fun part for me. I've got to have my tunes. Fortunately, this one does have the NAV option so I don't need to deal with that.

I have this headinit already:

DEX-P99RS - Stage 4 Reference Series CD Receiver

And will pair it with this in the dash:

AVH-3300NEX - 1-DIN Multimedia DVD Receiver with 7" WVGA Display, Apple CarPlay™, Android Auto™, Built-in Bluetooth®, SiriusXM-Ready™ and AppRadio Mode +

Anyhow, back on track...Suspension!

That’s a solid setup. Haven’t used it but many have in the FJC community. Have ridden in rigs with it and been on the trail with them as well.
My recommendations, scrap the diff. Drop. Like mentioned not necessary for anything under 3”.
Consider going to the HD rear coil. The standard Superflex has a reputation of being very comfortable but sagging under very little load. A lot with the standard rear end up adding airbags or switching to HD.
Lastly, I’d highly recommend getting UCAs when you do this. Although you may be able to get in alignment specs. The handling will be different. Switching to an aftermarket UCA will allow for greater caster adjustment and ultimately stock like handling with the lift.

Im running 265/70/17 with the toytec 112-620 springs up front and FJ springs in the rear. Its about a 2 inch lift and it rides great with 5100's. If you are planning on mostly city driving the boss kit will be overkill.

I'd agree with the others that the Boss lift is probably overkill for you. The GX470 I bought two weeks ago came with the Toytec Boss lift kit installed on it with the SPC UCAs. The ride is smooth and comfortable on the road, but to me FEELS a little top heavy/tippy in turns. I've owned 80 series and 100 series before and they all felt solid and planted in turns and emergency maneuvers on the highway, but this feels a little tippy to me.

To be fair though, it might just be me as I've been commuting via motorcycle the last two years and might still need to get more familiar and accustomed to how the GX handles -- I never drove it stock, and because I bought it lifted I don't know if there are adjustments that might make it stiffer/more stable. (Maybe missing sway bars? Might have to crawl under to see later...)

Here's a pic of mine with 285-65-18 tires:

You probably know this already, but the GX/Prado will fit 265/70/17 with no lift. I had BFG KM2s and now Nitto G2s, both 265/70 and no issues at all.

Did you ever look under your rig and see if it was a bit tipsy because of the sways missing? I'm really liking the BOSS front coilovers, especially considering the alternatives, but just trying to get a feel for how it rides on and off road.

This is where KDSS shines. I sold my 100 series long time ago because I got tired with the handling. It's fine for people that used to truck but this is also the reason why crossover are much more popular nowadays.

Recently went back to Body On Frame SUV because I am getting the itch to do off roading agan. The latest developments of somewhat affordable bypass shocks kinda spark my interest back to 4x4. I am a suspension geek and love to tinker with it.

Initial idea was to get bypass shocks to overcome the body motion challenge that I really hate previously. The high maintenance heim joint used and the noise concern make me consider more traditional approach. Lucky enought to get KDSS equipped GX and I am pretty satisfied with adjustable tough dog foam celll shocks now.

Mine has 0 sways front or rear and it corners like a trophy truck. Rolls, feels crazy, but never tippy, never lift a wheel or feel out of control. It is all in what you want. A higher end suspension will handle it with no sways, but the ride feel will differ. 265s will looks like donuts on a lift. A 285/70 will fit with minimal rub if any (add UCAs and push caster forward and you will have some plastic to work on, but that's about it.

I’ve just received my new lift kit. Went the Dobinsons route instead. 3” lift kit, Dobinsons Panhard Bar, adjustable lower end links and SPC UCA’s. All going in this month. Staying with my 265/70’s until their done, then I may move up in size a bit.
