So now that my 40 is almost done the universe throws me a curve ball and decides Im meant to spend my life in a garage molesting old land cruisers.... yeah.

A 74 fj55 went up for sale locally and the thing is almost done. The guy had the frame powder coated, springs rearched and painted, power steering conversion, 4 wheel disc conversion, non rebuilt but running 2f/4spd/one piece, body was supposedly dipped in something, fiber glass front fenders....

He said all thats left to do is paint, install glass (which he has), and put the interior back together. Hes kind of desperate to sell this thing since hes moving and doesnt want to drag it across the province again. He was at 4500$ originally and dropped to $3000 last time we talked which is why im so interested. Mind you I still have to go see it but the pics I saw looked really really good.

And then theres the really cruel twist. Ready? The roof has been chopped 3"........

Yeah.

Im not saying it looks super terrible and to a non cruiser head it might not even be noticeable but... the roof is chopped. Even though whoever did it seems to have done a good job Im not a fan.

Also, the chances of finding another 55 body up here are about as good as rainbow unicorns flying gliders at the air show.

So what say the mudders? The price might still drop and the parts alone could double my money but thats not what id want to do. Id wanna finish and drive the damn thing, only thing thats holding me back is that damn chop and the fact that I might end up with a semi cool van that has absolutely no appeal to any cruiser types if i were to try to sell it down the line.

D

I might be wrong, but that one was posted by somebody down in the 55 forum. Personally, I wouldn't touch it for that kind of money. You can find a parts wagon a lot cheaper. The body is ruined, if you ever want to sell it. So the frame is powder coated :meh: you don't know what kind of job they did, etc. Better to start fresh yourself, at least you will know what you got.
