Hey all,

Wondering if anyone has a con-ferr bench seat they’d be willing to be part with? Or something else similar that could house three small kids.

Also, any recommendations on shops who can build a family cage for the 40? I know Metal Tech has a kit that can be welded but I have absolutely no welding skills. Closer to North Scottsdale the better. I’ve reached out to Westcott Designs since they do some great fab work but haven’t heard back yet. Thanks.

GMG Fabrication does a lot of Toyota 4x4 fab work, particularly for older trucks. They’re in Tempe.

as far as a Con-Fer bench, contact @jbee - he got one from me, I am not sure whether he ever installed it in his 40

I had 2 of them then sold one and sold the other one with a 40 I sold.
If you look around they’re out there, but rare.
I still have a set of armrests for 1 of them.

Ahh bummer! Yeah I’ve been scouring all over. I may just try and hit up a junk yard this weekend and find a seat that’ll work. The middle row from a Previa looks promising. Thanks!

honestly, the Con-Fer bench wasn't really all that sophisticated in design:

make a square metal frame out of angle iron to fit the circumference of your seat space (mounted at the narrow sides onto the wheel wheels - 2 bolts through the wheel well on each side), cut a piece of plywood to fit into the square, get heavy seat foam, your choice of upholstery fabric or fake leather to stretch over the foam, tack to the plywood - granted, the Con-Fer version had piping so the seat covering would be square on the foam, and also had repeated stitching perpendicular to the long side - lemme guess, every 3-4 inches, you might want the same to reproduce the look

but overall, it was a really simple design - interwebs pictures can help you figure it out

did I mention the plywood base of the bench -by the time I got my 40- was severely warped (to the point where the seat wouldn't really even stay flat in the metal frame anymore ), so if I were to make a bench of that type, I wouldn't use plywood but something that doesn't warp

Yeah they do look fairly simple and really not too comfortable. I thought if someone local had one it’d be easy to throw in. I may run around to some junk yards this weekend and look for something that’ll work. I had a fold and tumble seat from Samurai in my last 40 and it looked good and almost seemed like a perfect fit, but trying to find something now that’ll fit three kids (tightly).
