I am looking to upgrade to a bigger compressor, something that can blow > 15 CFM @90PSI, so that I can tackle the blasting and painting work I need to do on the 40 project. Lowe's has this model that I am condsidering:
Shop Kobalt 5 HP 80-Gallon 155 PSI Electric Air Compressor at Lowes.com=

Any other recomendations? I would like to stay under a grand.

Push for dual stage.

We've got a single stage compressor like the one you linked to, and it's fine for everything except blasting. The blast cabinet will run about 50% of the time, waiting for the compressor to catch back up the other half of the time, and the pressure pot blaster is about the same. The pressure isn't the big deal, the volume is what is lacking.

I'd troll craigslist and look for a used compressor of roughly the same size, but two stage compressor if you've got the time.

Dual stage is designed to get higher pressure, a bigger tank and cylinder volume along with a motor that can drive will result in higher volume flow rate. A 10hp 120 gal could do over 20 cfm @ 90 psi, but the price on these is near $2000 for something new, not too mention space they take up. I will keep my eye on cl before I pull the trigger.

Look on CL for an older, used but a good quality unit that comes up now and then. Of course, you're probably in a hurry!

I have had this fj40 since 2007 and have never driven it, so no hurry

I saw a Quincy for sale not too long ago on CL. My next unit will be 80 gallons upright and a dual head (not necessarily dual stage).

Have you looked at NorthernTool.com They have some decent pricing with free shipping.

Ended up going with the kolbalt from lowes, a rebadged campbell hausfeld. Got it installed this afternoon
