Compact powered subwoofer under the passenger seat, or in the rear subwoofer space?

That Kenwood would be interesting to hear. That's a real small speaker - barely larger than a 6.5" woofer like is already in the doors.

At least a few folks have done upgrades to the factory location. Lots more depth there. If you're brave enough to modify the trim pieces, you can do an 8 or 10".

I always wanted to do something fancy, but never got around to a custom mounting solution and just lived with a proper sub-woofer box taking up some cargo space.

If you have AAA and don't need the spare (or have it externally mounted) and don't need the clearance, weld in a tub where the spare sits then 'glass in an enclosure.

Yeah, there are various compact powered options. On the larger side is Kicker 46HS10 - https://www.crutchfield.com/p_20646HS10/Kicker-46HS10.html but I don't think there's 14.5" under the seat, haven't taken it out to really measure though.

That's a pretty cool idea. I need my spare and am looking for the easiest way to get *some* bass without having to do a lot of work, so it's not for me, but I'm sure it would be impressive.

Points for creativity, but there was no way I was about to cut a subwoofer sized hole in my floor! 🤣

I might have one rear seat passenger once a year. I love the sound and location. It was just to0 tall to mount under the passenger seat. I think it worked out for the best.

I don't need to turn the punch volume control more than 1/2 to 3/4 of the way up. In this arrangement, I have the subwoofer in the center between 4 Fosgate door speakers and the factory tweeters. We did install a component to lower the tweeter volume since the door speakers run straight from the Fosgate amp.

I ended up doing this. I put an Infinity BassLink Mini (Infinity BassLink Mini - https://www.crutchfield.com/S-9ZthstkQwfO/p_108BASSLMI/Infinity-BassLink-Mini.html) under the passenger seat after deleting the amp.

It fits really well, but I'm glad I didn't try to go with anything even a hair larger. The installation was trivial, given that I already had everything taken apart for the head unit installation.

For accessory power, I posi-tapped the line from the S7 harness that used to feed the factory amp and now feeds the head unit. I was prepared to run a new line to the battery but when I saw this subwoofer had a max draw of 13 amps, with a 15amp fuse on the subwoofer, I wondered if I really needed to do that. Seems to be fine at even very high volumes. Am I right that my worst case here is blowing the 20 amp radio fuse, or can this lead to something worse? I do plan an additional fuse block in the engine bay and a run through the firewall at some point, but I'm hoping this isn't dangerous for now.

For ground, I posi-tapped the grounds from the S6 and S7 harnesses that are now joined. I know I've read something about how these grounds are weird and you use them at your peril, but no issues so far.

For the power-on signal, I used the S7 pin 1. Wasn't entirely necessary as this subwoofer has an auto-power on, but might as well.

(Many thanks to Stereo Wiring: Land Cruiser / LX 470 (1998-02) - https://tlcfaq.com/main/2012/05/land-cruiser-lx-470-stereo-wiring/ for the great info on these harnesses).

The sound is pretty good. It's not going to spill any drinks in adjacent vehicles (unless they are also 100 series equipped with the OEM easy-tip cupholders), but it's just about as loud as I would ever want to actually listen to bass, and I like it pretty loud.

Glad to have read your post! I haven't removed the passenger seat again to measure., But is it the height that is maxed out or the width/length for the above setup?

I have already previously bypassed the amp, will follow your tips on what pins to tap into. Thanks!

Actually neither one is maxed with that little sub. I can slide it around in there. It's a bit of an odd sloped space. I would recommend removing the seat and measuing if you want to go a tad bigger. You definitely have an inch or two to play with in various directions but it also depends on seat placement.

I had that model and didn't like it and returned it. I went one size up bigger and it is much better on the 4runner. I will be doing it soon on my new LC100.

This is worth the small price bump to the next model.

Awesome... Thank you. Was just looking at that.. just not sure if it will fit.

Ended up getting the Kicker 10" Powered Sub.. Kicker 46HS10 - https://www.crutchfield.com/p_20646HS10/Kicker-46HS10.html

As mentioned earlier.., I had the Sound Ordinance 8" powered sub from Crutchfield in my 80 series. It filled in the sound admirably. I figured I'll try a 10" sub this go around.

For those that are interested.. when I removed my amp there is quite a bit of room. I'd say approximately 16x9x3.5.. give or take. Larger opening is towards the door under the carpet you see below.

Thanks @skink for the thread. If your no longer going for SPL competitions.. these compact underseat powered subs really round out the sound!

Nice! Glad that's working out for others as well.

Now... what are we doing with the space in the rear where the original subs are? I was hoping someone made a little storage insert but haven't found one yet.

A JBL Fuse Subwoofer split into 2 pieces might go under the seats too.

Figure I'll just keep adding to this thread to help others. I ended up fitting the Kicker HS10 under the passenger seat. Fits perfect... AND absolutely sounds incredible.

I'm blown away in comparison to my old Sound Ordinance underseat 8" sub. Granted this kicker is a 10" w/ 180 watts RMS, just sounds incredible. Anyone looking for a simple option with space savings., this is the way to go. Keep in mind., you must remove the factory amp under the seat.

I can't quite tell from the pictures but....It just fits in there or is there plenty of available room to shift it around in there?

There is probably another 3 or 4 inches of length to play with. Height wise it's a perfect fit. You could maybe go another half inch taller.

Did you extend the speaker wire from the head unit to the speaker wires under the seat or did you run new wires to all the doors?
