First I know to stay a way from SA trucks

But I can't help Myself this has to be one of the cleanest LHD 73 I have seen. It's a 1998 ( not lipstick on a pig ) low miles and looks to be all original except the tasteful front bumper & touch screen stereo.
It's a dream truck for me as it has the Coil pack 1FZ, 5 speed, manual shift transfer case & AC. It also has the Coil spring front axle ( like a 80 series ) and a soft top.

Sorry for the crap pik.

My question for the great minds of Mud would this be a kit assembled Colombia like the early 73s that went to SA or were the late model FZJ73 built in Japan and imported Colombia ?
Thank you in advance.

Who cares? Buy it! :flipoff2:

Inspect in-person and test drive before you purchase. Especially if it’s in Miami, looks like Florida in the background?

Hello,

I am late to the party.

Colombian 73 Series had FZJnnnnnn frame numbers between 1995 and 1998. This changed to 9HX (or 9FX, I do not remember it exactly now) in 1999 and remained so until 2005. I understand that 9H is the country code for Colombia in the 17-number VIN designation system.

VIN plates from Colombian CKDs had the number in relief, in contrast to embossed numbers from Japanese trucks.

Colombian 73 Series got the 1FZ-FE engine in 1999. Some late model 1998 examples had it as well. They did not have the coil pack, late model 1FZ-FE variant.

The truck from the picture has five stud wheels. They are specific to post 1999 70 Series. Colombian 73 Series had six stud wheels throughout their production run.

Colombia-spec 73 Series had leaf springs in the front axle. This truck has coils on its front.

To me, the 4.5 badge and the front grill look suspicious. So do the front coil springs, the five stud wheels and the claims about the engine.

These are 2000/2004 model year Colombia-spec 73 Series. Note the leaf springs on the front and the six stud wheels.

The engine bay from a 1998-2005 model year Colombian 73 Series should look like this. Notice that it is not a coil pack 1FZ.

I suspect this truck had the drivetrain and suspension of an FZJ71 swapped in.

Hi Juan
I hope you are doing well my Friend

Your not late to the party, and thank you for the info.
After decades of buying and selling used cars & trucks I can pick them apart from the pictures this is no Hack job. If someone swapped it it's a clean Job.
I has none of the usual SA lipstick on a pig, pop rivet emblems after market upholstery, etc.

Juan

I have seen coil pack 1FZ 73’s in Colombia. Earliest being 2004ish.

Cheers

Hello,

2004/2005 were the last years of the Colombia-spec 73 Series.

The engine bay picture I posted is from a 2004 truck.

It is not just the coil pack. The inlet manifold, the mass air flow sensor and other details give away a late model 1FZ-FE engine.

Starting in 1999, Venezuela, Colombia and Ecuador got 70 Series trucks with coil pack engines, namely 71, 78 and 79 Series. Most of them came from the plant in Venezuela; the rest were 73 and 75 Series from SOFASA in Colombia.

Hello,

I am not too bad, thank you for asking.

If this truck has a properly made engine/drivetrain swap., the instrument panel should be that of a post 1999 unit.

Coil pack 1FZ-FE engine have slightly different harnesses and electronics. The speedometer cable uses a pickup sensor instead of the worm gear.

If the dash is similar to the picture below, the swap did not include harness and electronics.

By the way, this is from a 2004 FZJ73 without coil packs.

It would be good to have some more pictures.
