Just looking at some of the 1FZ offerings here in Australia, I quite commonly see early 1FZFE (Dissy type with spider legs intake manifold) for cheap, like really cheap. $500 easy. $1000 with gearbox.... Its almost like there is a surplus of 'clapped out' 80 series that get flogged to death then left to rot.
Is there much difference between the later version (coil pack and conventional intake) and the old version of 1FZ?

Just seems like a plausible conversion option for older cruisers (like FJ75 troopys, FJ73 middy etc)
Even half contemplating importing a carby 1fz intake manifold and adding holley sniper for extra tunability, except there are now so many ECU tuning options here now (and turbo kits aswell!)

About 40 HP, in percentages thats a lot. No Dissy to deal with and the cool facter

Coil pack 73 with a 5 speed I doubt a tubo is necessary. Thing would fly ! But ya that would be icing on the cake.
Now now now, is anything ever “necessary” for mods on ih8mud?

I mean maybe a winch.
Bumper or armor.
Snorkel for some of you (not naming names but as SRV put it, it’s flooding down in texas)

But turbo? 100% necessary. Who doesn’t need psshhhh tut tut tut after every shift…and I’m not talking about the “senior” ih8mud guys making those noises for obvious other reasons…

Maybe, you argue a hot tune and crackle is just a little bit much…maybe

Seriously, I bet 260 horsepower’s of forced induction in a middy would absolutely scream.

i completely agree with 100% of what has been said

The main reason I'd consider a low boost setup... sadly I need an auto transmission for long drives (workplace injury)
Even still, the 1FZ is still high on my list of contenders (really want to stay toyota powered, especially if I need to liquidate assets and move it onto another owner)

This is such a rare and nearly impossible to find combo in a 73 especially state side that I feel that I should have rolled the dice on it 🤷‍♂️ oh well

Everything happens for a reason. Patience, more of these are coming to the states.

Did ya see this one? It's an '87. :flipoff2:

If it’s a 87 if it’s gas it’s not a 1FZ and definitely not a 1FZ-FE coil pack !! And definitely not coil spring front suspension.
:flipoff2: :flipoff2:

The one in question here also had AC, 5 speed and a soft top.
Very hard to find desirable options 🤷‍♂️

Just a silly question (as I am still to find the correct answer)
Was there ever an early J70 with 1FZ with Auto Transmission? I assume if there was, did it have a hydraulic controlled shifter or an ecu.
