Hi guys

I have been interested in such an overland trip but planned it rather for '09, at the end of my assignment here in CA. Here's a cool link on an Alaska-Tierra del Fuego trip in an HJ60. They shipped their rig from Panama to Ecuador.

- FloridaFJ80: I understand you're pretty comfortable about driving around Colombia, given your roots, but I would be very uneasy doing so with US license plates, given the "popularity" of the US in that region, and the high hostage value of any "Westerner" there among some militias or rebels:frown: . Maybe I'm just a wuss, but I would rather ship my rig from Panama to Guayaquil, take the plane with my wife and kid and then drive southbound.

- TEPUI: I drove the Panamericana from Santiago to San Pedro de Atacama in 2001 and these places are just amazing, the most beautiful desert I ever saw along western Algeria and southern Morocco. At that time, I wished I would have a good old Cruiser to climb to El Tatio or to explore the outskirts of Valle del Elqui. Lucky you...

Angel Falls

Angel Falls is in Venezuela. Worlds tallest waterfall. Awesome and worth a trip there. I went two years ago. Just not practical to drive there though. Not totaly impossible, just not practical. Sounds like an adventure. There were a couple Land Cruisers there. The owners said they had them brought in by helicopter.

Awesome Site, Looks like Central America is going to be a fun place to visit!!!

Hello guys sorry for the late response. So alittle about my self I live in Denver and I'm a pipe fitter. I am 18 and get along with alot of people very easy. I have been wheeling for about 2-3 years now and I just bought my first Land Cruiser a 1993 FZJ-80. Befor I got my Cruiser I always drove my dads 1997 Land Rover Discovery. A month or so after I got my Cruiser the engine deciede to die:mad: . I love to travel and to go exploring but have never been out of the United States and this trip sounds like a blast to go to different parts of the word to that I have never been to. Meet some new people make new friends. see parts of the world not seen by to many people.

Angelo

the more than I read about Central America (Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua) the lest that I want to drive for it...make a lot of sense to ship the rigs from Houston or Florida to South America directly...
about the Salto Angel, you can actually drive to the close village Canaima, but from there, just local small boats (curiaras) and trecking trails...

Hey what are you guys using as a price to budget for fuel? Does anyone know the price of fuel down there? Does it stay a constant percentage above US prices? Also...not owning an 80 yet...would 10mpg be a good "worst case" number to use...or should I go lower?

Rmirianda - Awesome pics.... You are right about getting there, it looks very muddy, but i also looks like a whole lot of fun!!!!! Any particular reason why you wouldnt want to drive through central america. ??

Basically, 'cause I saw a documentary (wetback) about how people from those countries migrate to the US.
I know, a movie is like the history, we just know/learn the winners side…or in this case, the Director side…
When the guy did it in the 70’s, the area was not declared National Park…in recent expeditions, they avoid that area…wondering why?...must be a reason…
