Hi guys
I have been interested in such an overland trip but planned it rather for '09, at the end of my assignment here in CA. Here's a cool link on an Alaska-Tierra del Fuego trip in an HJ60. They shipped their rig from Panama to Ecuador.

- FloridaFJ80: I understand you're pretty comfortable about driving around Colombia, given your roots, but I would be very uneasy doing so with US license plates, given the "popularity" of the US in that region, and the high hostage value of any "Westerner" there among some militias or rebels
. Maybe I'm just a wuss, but I would rather ship my rig from Panama to Guayaquil, take the plane with my wife and kid and then drive southbound.
- TEPUI: I drove the Panamericana from Santiago to San Pedro de Atacama in 2001 and these places are just amazing, the most beautiful desert I ever saw along western Algeria and southern Morocco. At that time, I wished I would have a good old Cruiser to climb to El Tatio or to explore the outskirts of Valle del Elqui. Lucky you...
