I leave mine about 1/2 way up....

John, the optimist -- halfway up as opposed to halfway down.

Incidentally, 62s have this feature as well but it doesn't kick in until about 100,000 miles, at which time the antennas are only capable of going half way up (or down, depending on your frame of mind).

That's kind of interesting though. Why would you want the antenna in any other position than all the way up or all the way down?

Kaderabek:

I like to leave mine about 6" down from the top otherwise it hits the garage door when pulling in, plus when mines extended all the way up, it moves around a little more. Probably from hitting the garage door to many times.

It's one of those things you can live without, but since it comes that way, it's funner to talk it up like it's a big deal to try and make those that are without feel inferior..., especially any of the special edition posers out there :flipoff2:.

:beers:

yeah, thats seem to be where I see mine most often.......with Connie behind the wheel ;)

I am afraid she wants to "upgrade" permently from her 62 to a 100 series.......and she seem to think the black lifted one in the driveway is a easy way :D

Yeah, just saw it out on the interstate as a matter of fact. Smokin' hot blonde at the wheel. I'll ask her about "adjusting my antenna" tonight. :D

friend as the 97 white collectors edition and really nice...wood paneling, leather seats..all the bells whstles....but paid $24k w/60k on it...which i thought was high as heck...

i raise the antenna just enough to get decent reception w/out static...which is about 6inches high...actually like it better than full length...rarely use the FM, only for NPR in the morning and WTOP/NPR in the evening commute...rest of time, cds

A: If I pulled into our garage in my 80 I'd be breaking far more than the antenna
B: Good god, when do you people drive?! :D

And you know what, I bet she's right!

I drove our 100 last weekend for the first time in probably a month. Sweet truck.

I have a CE, one dealer referred to it as the vampire edition. Black with tinted windows and badges. Claimed he had 4 guys want to buy it when she was in for service.

Collector's Editions and 40th Anniversary trucks were all concoctions of the Toyota US marketing folks. Black pearl badging and grill, embroidered mats, auto climate control ala LX450, memory power antenna, two tone seats (40th), CE and 40th badges, painted wheel inserts.

I may be wrong but I believe the memory antenna came in late 96 and was on all 97's. Mine has it and it's not a CE, 40th, or fake 40th.

Interesting. The '97 80 I sold Kaderabek didn't have it and neither did the 4 or 5 I test drove before buying the 40th Ann. Maybe it was regional or early/late-production-related.

an example of a "collecter's edition" on E-Bay. And it's Black!! I've only seen white as well.

Looks like mine. I've never seen another one in person. Lucky the wife talked me into getting it vs. a tundra.

I've seen CE in Desert Dune, Maroon, Black, White and Green.

Hey, JR, are you building the "new" 80 any different than the one you sold Kaderabek?

According to the Toyota literature, CE's were available in all standard '97 Land Cruiser colors. Sage was a color only available on 40th's and 40th's were only available in Sage and Emerald Green.

The antenna style changed fo the 97 model year, beginning in September 1996. All 97's got the same antenna.

No blower, snorkle or Kaymar this time. I would like to have the blower but I am not sure about installing it at 120k miles. My hi-perf MerCruiser boat experience says that's probably not a good idea, though I am tempted because they are now so cheap. So just OME, tires, ARB, winch, Hellas and some interior gadgets. The next time I say I am selling, hold me down and beat the s*** out of me.

:whoops:

Kaymar, good decision I'd say. Buy a boxed bumper from Christo or Lance. I'm eventually going to destroy this Kaymar on the rocks, already (very slightly) bent the swing-out arm. The jack placement is all wrong, especially for a long wheelbase vehicle. I like it otherwise though.

Snorkel is something I could live without as well. Too many questions for generally under the radar me.

I'd recommend a different winch also. Or synthetic cable. There's not enough clearance on the spool, pain in the butt to have to spool your cable perfectly every time.

Yeah, I hate this truck.

And you'll get a blower, you know it....

(It was perfect when I got it to tell the truth. I wish I could have stuck with the AT's but they just don't cut it on the trail here. Much, much better on the highway though. And had I not smashed the flares they'd still be on there. Combination of cat-back exhaust and sliders has produced an annoying vibration (yes, I've checked the motor mounts and everything else I can think of -- I'll rotate the cats up to horizontal eventually, maybe that will help). The rack I'll be using a good bit but probably not enough to justify the expense. It's damned nice though. But seriously, I should have never fussed with near-perfection.)
