Last week the car stalled while driving slow in a parking lot, it started right back up. After parking it overnight at home, it didn't start the next day. Researched online and recommendations were to clean the throttle body. Didn't start still. Checked the fuel line and I wasn't getting any fuel. Took fuel pump off, connected it to a12v and it spun fine. Put everything back and car magically Started and ran fine for 2 days. Now same symptoms again. It cranks, turns, but won't start. I re-cleaned the throttle body again, but no success. Can anyone help please?

I have the same problem right now with my 1998 Landcriuser. It died in traffic (engine check light battery and AT temp on) then restarted after 15 minutes. Got it home and it would not start the next morning. Later that day it started no problem and no check engine light. The next morning did not start again. I thoroughly cleaned the MAF and it started and ran great for two days in a row. This morning it wont start again.

I am going to clean the maf again right now and see what happens.

I just did a car scan and got a "PO100" MAF. I cleaned it (with MAF cleaner) and checked the new aftermarket air cleaner that i installed two weeks ago. She started right up and the check engine light is off.
Hope this helps.

When seeking solutions...it is always necessary to differentiate between "No Start" and "No Crank"....as sometimes folks use the the terms interchangeably.

If your vehicle will not 'crank' (starter will not turn the engine over), the problems associated are likely very different than those when your vehicle won't 'start' (engine cranks, but will not fire/run).

flintknapper, you are right! ok so in my case the engine will crank but not fire/run! thanks for helping me clarifying that part :)

0pen the fuse/relay box under the hood and tap hard on all the relays end of a big screwdriver will work... works better if someone is in the truck trying to start it... this is for IF it turns over and NOT start...
are you serious?? hitting things other than the starter was never a good fix for things in my book :(

The P0505 code may or may not be related to your 'no start' issue. It's possible it was a pending code before. It suggests a problem with the idle control system which 'could' cause a hard start/no start event.

But....you say you had little or no fuel delivery prior to testing the fuel pump. IF you are satisfied now that the fuel pump is working, then we need to look for an obstruction in the delivery lines (not likely) and then consider changing your fuel filter.

I've not heard of a fuel filter (yet) that was so completely clogged that it wouldn't allow enough fuel to pass, but they can get mighty dirty.

Once you've eliminated the possibility that fuel physically can not travel through the fuel lines, then it is time to look at the electrical components that control the fuel pump/system (relay, fuse, efi, etc).

If this was a case of rough running issue and fuel pressure was suspect. I'd recommend pinching off return fuel line (Edited: Pinching could damage line!) (hung on engine cover near transmission dip stick), which will boost fuel pressure as a quick test.

A pretty common problem... the block that the relays plug into has some issues... and Yes tapping on top of the relays will OFTEN let you start the truck.. you can go back and research the issue... i ended up building several remote relays that bypassed/ replaced the one on my lx470 has been in service for 4 years...

what usually is the issue if i remember correctly is that... the immobilizer is not letting power get to the relay that controls the fuel injection... ie: you are getting spark and the engine is turning over... just will not start due to lack of fuel... there is a light up symbol on the dash somewhere that is telling you this... something to let you know the security system is armed not armed or something to that effect... pretty simple to power the fuel injection with the relay removed... the trick is to only power it up when the chipped key is in... (yes you can bypass the immobilizer this way) the relays I built took power from another source in the fuse block that was only hot with the key... which then powered a remote relay that in turn supplied power to allow the fuel injection to work...

or some people get by for years just tapping the top of the relay a couple times a year...

Ok everyone! I figured it out, it was actually the fuel pump itself. I took it out and put it back in, car started and ran for a couple days. After it died, it took it out again and put it back, it ran for 5 minutes. So I finally decided to get a new fuel pump and now it's good. Like someone mentioned earlier...if the pump spins doesn't mean it's good :)
