got the car hauler trailer fixed up.....oh it was fun!... New 7 way plug & harness with junction box and new break-away kit with charger and two new grounds and some other misc wiring. A junction box is the only way to go on these things...makes things cleaner and easier to fix if problems later. Wiring was not complex...but it did not help things where the mfg changed color on the 7 pin from what the truck calls out (guy who made the trailer, I guess that might be common...but when the plug says use green and the use whatever color is laying around..) ... well I now have some additional custom wiring..but I did it, so I know the secret squirrel stuff this time :) I can only blame myself if I crash and burn now :)

On to the wiring for the seats tomorrow and other msic stuff...that I don't have to do, but if I'm on a roll I might as well make some progress.

That's what we worked on all day. Not sure still what the problem was, eliminated the ABS control block and replaced the master with a mid 70s Chevy half ton pickup. Either way the brakes are 100 times better than they were before,. If they hold up I will be golden.

I bet it was the abs valve assembly....if they go bad....you either have to replace and thats expensive or do away with them...no half way in between. I know some trucks require some crazy bleeding processes... You should be good now....not a place to go out there without functional brakes..

Ugh. Not what I wanted to see, but in a way, it's a relief I guess. Ted, I feel your pain now. Was working perfectly, but I doubt it would've lasted very long on this trip. Was hesitant to put my spare in only because it isn't the V6 housing with the bigger bearings, but it's the same in every other aspect, so better than waiting for this "ticking bomb" to go off right after the trip got going.

ugh, my sympathies!! I'm in the same boat going from a V6 diff to a 4 cyl diff, not thrilled about it but the alternative is much much worse. It also leaves me with only a high-pinion open diff as a spare, I'll drag my V6 5.29 along but frankly not sure why since I'm running 4.10s on this trip.

I can only tell you what others told me and that "it's better to find now than later". While a very true statement it doesn't really help a lot when you're kicking the crap outta your junk cuz it's broken and elbow deep in gear oil while fighting the clock all at the same time.

PACKING WEEK IS HERE!!

Gotta throw everything I'm taking in the rig and load that on the trailer Friday morning/mid day and haul it 4.5 hours north. Hoping to beat the Chattanooga traffic on Friday but that's probably optimistic.

Still to do no later than Thursday evening: P/U wife from airport, pack clothes, pack truck, buy beer, get new trailer tire... Gonna be a busy week!!

Next week is gonna suck!! Will be sittin on pins and needles with no rig here to fuss with. :bang:

Well this was my last full free day to wrench and I STILL wasn't able to get the crawler done. "One step forward, two steps back" was the theme for me this weekend. Only wrenching left is to install a new alternator - once I can figure out the correct one to fit. The diffs were a nightmare - remind me to tell that tale at the campfire one night. SMH.

So, probably nobody cares, but I gotta post up the alternator info that I finally found to fit the TG GM alt retrofit kit because it is so strange.
1991 Chevrolet V3500 4x4 6.2L diesel. It does come on about twenty other vehicles too, but that's the one I found first - thanks to a Zuk forum.

Today was an epic turning point:
#1 Wrenching is complete!!!!!
#2 BIG inspection at work is complete.

Only little stuff like clothes, tools and spare parts to pack and load now. Oh, and my parents will be in town Friday-Wednesday, so I'm not likely to get anything done in that time period (I have to work Sat & Sun too).

It never ends! Topped off all the fluids Monday evening and noticed a very small drip under the radiator yesterday afternoon. :bang: Picked up a new lower hose last night and will throw it on tonight.

I snagged a couple items from John and Big Brown delivered the last of the spare parts yesterday so aside from clothes I'm packed and ready, well aside from above.

Pulling 2 weeks worth of clothing together is fun, I'm hoping we'll hit a laundromat at some point or I'm gonna be going commando by about day 12. :moon:

You all obviously change clothes way to often
Hahahaha! They must not have military discipline like us Roger. o_O

I'm sure there's one somewhere in town, but I know for a fact that there are a few in GJ. Anyone not coming to GJ, maybe Danny has a pressure washer? :flipoff2:

No wonder why Spot is always sniffing your nether regions. :flush: Pants are one thing, they can be worn a few times but shirts are a different story. I can sweat in a blizzard thanks to my father.

I just try to act human when I'm not at work, I promise I know how to stretch a bag of clothes, it's just people may not want to be around me.

I always camped at Slickrock CG in past and they had washers and driers, yellow pages list 3 coin operated ones.
