And 6 weeks of work left to do

hahaha, yup!

Roger - We've added a twist to the truck delivery on the 26th. Me, John, Nick and Rocky have opted to make a stop in at AOP for a ride on Saturday, I'll be riding bitch as my truck is not leaving my trailer. In fact, if'n you're around on Friday evening (Sept 25th) I may just drop it off then so's I'm not tempted or if you need any help working on stuff.

Thoughts???

Andy - not sure we nailed down the p/u time on Sunday at the ABQ airport but my plain lands around 2:30 - 3:00ish, not sure you're gonna be there that early are ya?

Driver's knuckle is FINALLY rebuilt!!!!!!! thx to Tony.:clap::clap::clap::clap::clap:

Now on to other things... :bang:

Friday afternoon or Sunday morning are fine. I have plenty of parking if you want to leave your trailer.
Guess you all decided not to go to Dixie run at GM.

Probably Fri afternoon/evening then depending on the work schedule, I'll let ya know and yes will probably leave the trailer - thx. Dixie run was never an option for me for obvious reaons.

On another note, I found Henry... He called me as he was headed out I-70 on his way Ouray for a couple of weeks. Says it's a beautiful as I'd imagined.

Ted i plan to leave after work Sat night. 8pm if im lucky. So im guessing you will be half drunk and very familiar with the airport by the time i get there!

@tkinze Throw that diff cover on your trailer, @radioridge is going to pick it up. I got too many irons in the fire right now, so we worked out a deal for him to put it to use. Preciate it.

I tell ya what, putting a simple four-wire brake controller in a vehicle with air brakes....... ain't so simple. :( Thank God I got the hard part done finally though. Just have to acquire some 12-14G wire to get the output back to the connector now. Then wire up the trailer, but I don't see much that could go unexpectedly with that.

Well, I was wrong again. The 7-way plug on the trailer was apparently made before the current "standard" so I had to ignore the colors and wire everything using a multimeter. Would not have been a real big deal except for two things: 1) I assumed the wire colors were normal so I completely wired everything and bundled it up before testing and finding out it was all effed up and 2) It began raining just as I was discovering the issue, so had to rewire it all in the cold and dark while raining. The things we do for our sport!!!

Whaddya think Ted? Your rig in place of the Jeep heading toward 21rd in a few weeks?

would love to envision it but feeling a little sick to stomach right now. Been getting an occasional pop out of the front end of late so decided to take a look at it before it became something more than an annoyance.

First - Huge Thanks to John!!! We really humped it yesterday and got what I thought was a lot done.

I dragged my junk to Johns yesterday expecting to find a worn out locker. If that turned out to be the case then I was just gonna swap the front diff to the rear and weld the locker. Easy 'nuff right?!

However, a broken tooth on the ring gear is probably the issue and not the locker. :bang::bang::bang:

So, I had a spare open 4.10 diff and John had a welded spare 4.10 diff so we moved the locker from my broken 5.29 to the open diff and then installed both 4.10 diffs. Was a long day but finally buttoned 'er up around 5:00 last yesterday. I was damned impressed that we were able to swap 2 diffs and install a locker in a single day.

Backed it out of the shop and CLUNK!! my spare 4.10 is making a horrid clunking noise in reverse only - DAMN It!! So now, with time really at a premium I gotta either red label in some 5.29s and have em setup real quick or migrate my locker into my HP 4.10 Diff and X my fingers.

Headed back over there tomorrow to tear down the front axle again and execute/look at options... Either way I now have a lot more work to do in the next 2 weeks than I anticipated.

I guess what p!sses me of as much as anything is that 1) I need to waste Johns Labor Day (and mine) and 2) since it is Labor Day weekend I've now lost a week day this upcoming week so can't order parts until Tuesday and 3) Yesterday's Herculean effort was pretty much wasted and have to do it it all over again.

Workin' on this POS is getting old!

Geez. That is awful!

I think I know where there's a HP 4.10 front diff available to use for free VERY near you, but it is E-locked so might not help much.

I have a HP diff I horse traded for with Nick so that's going in tomorrow. I've been kinda pissed about it all day today but I suppose if it goes back together tomorrow all be good.

After Moab I'll end up re-gearing the HP diff to 5.29 but for now will be sportin' 4.10s - assuming everything goes as planned anyway.

The equipment is kicking our butts, my issues have been with the trailer. I ordered the seals for wheel bearing service, got every thing cleaned up, replaced 2 bearings repacked the bearings installed the seals put all the drums on the axles then went to fill the hubs with grease gun and realized the grease was going into brakes ,pulled them appart and discovered the seal ID was oversize, ordered new more expensive seals locally two days later back together. Adjusted brakes and then pulled pin on brake away box, which had been on charge for 3 days, nothing battery is dead, ordered new one be here Tuesday.
Started to put tires on trailer and noticed the spring equalizer was sticking. On closer examination realized the bushings were gone and bolts were badly worn, took half a day to get them off bolts so rusted impact would not remove nuts so has to remove them with grinder. 4 new equalizer and bolts shipped yesterday from etrailer in MO, no expected delievery date yet.
Still have to put fenders, aux. fuel tank and rear lights on IH

Wow. Errybody havin so many issues, I feel a lot better about what all I have to do still.

I went wheeling today. If what I did today didn't break anything, I'm very confident Moab won't be able to either. Not intentionally, but believe me, I 'tried' to break today... the Gecko said "Nope. Gonna have to do better than that'. RCV's for the win!

Trailer is doing great too. Hubs didn't even get warm after two hours of towing. Need to at least adjust the trailer brakes, but might actually replace one pair or all four just to be on the safe side.

Shoulda walked it first. :/

Want to buy a 4 Runner that's ready to go ?

I'll even deliver to Roger's for ya .

I decided to check out my trailer....good thing I did. Noticed the cheap break-away kit the trailer guys used had seen better days and and decided to check out the battery..well good thing I did. One of the little terminals had broken clean off the battery so it was useless...guess I would have found out the hard way if the trailer came loose.... since what I had on the trailer was crap I ordered a new break-away kit from tekonsha http://www.amazon.com/Tekonsha-50-85-313-Shur-Set-Breakaway-Battery/dp/B004I9ZZOA . Lined up to do some brake work and steering gear swap next friday/saturday. If I get to my heater core it will be a plus...if not then I'm rolling regardless. Normally I get this stuff from etrailer....but amazon had it and I needed some other stuff from amazon. On etrailer this had good reviews along with one from hopkins.

Next weekend will be the steering swap, checking the brakes and general look at everything on the 60 to ensure no obvious issues. Will try to get my seats wired up too, but not sure is a good place for the fuse block I want to use from Blue Sea. I've debated putting it under or in the console (similar to tuffy). I'll figure something out..
