Cut them a break, it's a big job being done by club members, volunteers. I heard that they are hoping to have all of them out by the weekend.

100% agree. It is a big job. My biased opinion was based on another similar/bad personal experience with a CO vendor. No email response, no call back. Lucky for me this time, no money was involved.

We are booked in the Four Corners Inn for Blanding, the Navajo Trail National 9 Inn for Monticello and the Bowen Motel in Moab. Talked to all of them today and they are getting booked up, so if you haven't made reservations it's time!

which nights exactly are you where  Sat/Sun Blanding AND Sun/Mon Blanding  Mon/Tues Monticello

I am starting to get going on our reservations, finally

I am still a big question mark. If my some miracle I can get my inbox clear I'll be up early. Otherwise my plan is to leave at 3 or 4am on Wed from Tucson.

I haven't made any other reservations yet, since we are still talking with semlin about the possibility of camping on the Lockhart Trail.....

since we will have a new camera by then, we will need a LOT of photo time :bounce:

How many pix do you plan on? We got a late start last year (the time stamp on the air down pic is 11:25 AM) and I still managed 146 pix on the SLR and some more on the Kodak:D.

It's a long day, but is blown way out of proportion in most trail reports. IMHO, a good local trail to compare it to is Crown King. The Wells book lists it as 34.4 miles from the lake to town, then it's what 26 miles back to 17? So about the same miles and I would rate them about the same in challenge.

The pic time stamps show the times. The first one is the air down spot, turn off from the park road, time stamp is 11:25 AM. The second pic is the turn onto Hurrah Pass, from there it's still about 10 miles of dirt into Moab, it's time stamped 7:00 PM.

so what kind of trail difficulty is lockhart? mrs semlin has okayed the camping provided she is not exposed to any cliffs or other clench inducing obstacles.

The big difference between Lockhart and Crown King is one is very remote and the other is a traffic jam. Any issues on Lockhart would be much more difficult to deal with, we didn't see another soul all day.

And the hardest challenge, the decent off of the shelf, is closer to the end. The pix show that Carl started down at 5:05 and Drew on the last bolder at 6:20, so ~1:15 to get 5 trucks, 1 w/ trailer down.

If she has a problem with vertical, Utah probably isn't the place for her!:D That said Lockhart is mostly a dirt road, IIRC the trail was pretty wide and mild as far as off camber, "scary cliff" stuff.

It starts off crossing a relatively flat plain to the ridge. Then about half of the run is on the base of that big ridge, bluff, cliff, that is in the back ground of the pix. Most of the day the ridge is on the passengers side and Canyonlands spreads out on the other side. Towards the end it drops back off the ridge, this is the most challenging part. I would rate most of the trail in the 2-3 range, with the descent off of the ridge being maybe a 3.5.

If your running it for technical challenge you will be disappointed. If you spend your time worrying about "it's a long way up or down" your going to miss out. The whole reason that this trail is so cool is that it's just high enough on the ridge to have fantastic views of world class landscape!

Here a few pix with some trail in them.

that looks great and if the hard part is the end hopefully she will acclimatize.

i am fine with whatever. mrs semlin does not usually come offroading and is aprehensive bout slickrock from my photos. i just didn't want to drop her right into something hairy as the first time she leaves pavement in utah.
