The clutch slave on my 1978 FJ40 has failed and started leaking badly. I purchased a new one from Kurt and was in the process of replacing it, however I cannot seem to get the hydraulic line that runs into it off. I have tired PB plaster and a flare nut wrench. It will not budge. Any thoughts? Anyone know where to buy a replacement line?

I always crack the line loose while the slave is still attached to the bellhousing. Never had one that wouldn't budge that way.

If you're replacing the slave cylinder you could remove it along with the whole line from the master cylinder and then take it to any mechanic that does brakes. They would be able to make up a new line in minutes using the old one as a reference, with new flare nuts for next to nothing.
I had to do this with a brake line and it cost me about 10 bucks. If the flare but has been rounded you probably won't want to reuse that again anyway.

Noted on the brake line. I think I'll go that route! The slave is bolted up to the trans right now and the line wont budge.

Is it the rubber to steel hard line you're struggling with or the rubber line into the new slave?

Its the old rubber line into the old slave. I need a new line to replace it with the new slave. I tired the vice trick and looks like the nut is stripped. Its in there pretty good.

Can you get the line loose at the other end, away from the slave? Replace both soft line and slave. You should even replace the hard line and master cylinder so that you have a completely new system. This is what I did, and never regretted it. A little more expensive, but worth the peace of mind.

You may be stuck replacing the soft line too. Let us know if we can assist with that.

Depends on the exact month of manufacture:

1/1976-8/1977 - Part# BRH02230 - $28.50/each (Japanese) (16.5" hose)
9/1977-10/1984 - Part# BRH02358 - $50.50/each (OEM Toyota) (13.5" hose)

If you don't mind a little extra length the cheaper BRH02230 can be fitted, it's Japanese just not OEM only.

Just to check since I have a 7/78 Fj40, anyway I can fit the Japanese one? That's pretty close in price to what my local brake shop was charging.

Totally, ends are the same, length is the difference
