Clutch Pedal Question

The clutch pedal on my '73 40 has started to squeak badly and almost stick when I press it. Feels like the linkage inside the cab needs lube. Fluid level is ok. Should I grease the shaft at the top of the pedal that goes thru the firewall and into the master? If so, what kind of grease and is there any thing else I should look for?

mine started doing that too in my 60... i have not got too look at it yet but im almost positive that it is just the return spring..because the noise is from inside the cab and the clutch master clyinder is new..dont know how the 40s is set up but its prob the same thing going on...good luck

yeah, the setups are almost exactley the same. it does sound like a return spring issue.

does it stick on the way down, too? or just on the way back up?

Mine is not sticking, but the squeak has become very annoying, very quickly!! Any help on this would be much appreciated as always.

Mine was doing that around the top of the pedal where it attaches to the pedal bucket. I doused it with WD-40 a couple of times about 2 years ago and it has taken care of the problem ever since. I never investigated further since the WD-40 lubed it enough to stop the squeak.

Or FLUID FILM. The cool thing with FLUID FILM is that is has almost unlimited applications because it doesn't contain any solvents.

You can replace the 2 plastic bushings and a sleeve on the bolt a little high temp greese wouldent hurt

Mine had an annoying squeak until I lubed the pin that goes through the clevis yoke and clutch arm. I removed the pin, applied some lithium grease and reinserted it... Problem solved.
