Good thing you didn't make it last night....the meeting isn't until next Wednesday...the 11th.

So I guess we will be seeing you?

She said march has some of coldest day's they have,I fiqure you all know this ,BUT remember to pack coverall's and warm stuff if you got them. I dont think they allow 55 gallon barrel's of fire in the front seat's of truck's.

If it gets that cold in the desert at night, all you have to do is build TWO fires and stand between them. Keeps you from having to spin around all night...:hillbilly:

Whoaaaa, you are blowing my mind man!

I am guessing most of you all will be taking 64 to 70 across to Moab. There are a few of us in the KC area if any one needs anything or wants to stop and grab some BBQ and cold beverage. I have a extra hotel room here thats not used if any one needs it.

oh and Diesel is 1.79 here today

I heard about this trip from Tim over at toyota120...

MOAB!!! March 22-29 2009 - Toyota 120 Platforms Forum

I live in SLC, Utah and my wife and I were planning on being down in Moab at about this safe time. We would love to meet up with ya'll on Monday & Tuesday for some trails.

I have not yet seen a definitive itinerary for specific trails and times/dates. Matzell, you seem to be coordinating the majority of this trip... will you please send me any info needed to meet up with you guys ie. CB channel you'll be using, itinerary and so forth? (If the invitation is open of course?)

TIA,

Jason

I think about half of us are staying at Big Horn Lodge and the rest at Slickrock Campground. Probably best to meet up with us in the morning, early. We will be the ones with the VA license plates and the Bay to Blue Ridge Cruisers stickers. :D

This is a total guess on my part, and subject to change based on weather, breakage and other club members thoughts, but our itinerary might play out like this:

Mon - Fins & Things or Cliff Hanger/ Moab Rim
Tues - Poison Spyder Mesa/Golden Spike/Gold Bar Rim/Gemini Bridges
Wed - Hells Revenge/Top of the World
Thur - Pritchett Canyon
Fri, Sat & Sun - I-70, I-70 & I-70 :steer:

Last count I saw was 15 trucks. Thats a big slow group here on the East Coast, but maybe not at Moab. Depending how many extra trucks are staged in the morning we might have to break into 2 groups.

Jason,

We will find a meeting spot once we get there, maybe the grocery store parking lot in the center of town? We have a meeting this week to iron out the final details. Most of us should be there by lunch on sunday. Like Jester mentioned, it looks to be a large turnout of people, we may have to seperate into 2 groups based on skill and equipment level. I did not know this was out on other boards. We might have to make t-shirts and sell raffle tickets :)

Early Morning Meeting Place

The Southeastern corner of the City Market (425 S Main St
Moab, UT 84532) parking lot works well for an early Pre Trail Assembly. NO TRAILERS. Gives all the participants the chance to gather provisions and such..

Again, my two cents..

Ben

hate to say it gang, but i'm out for this run....

if it wasn't for Katemcy closing, I'd probably pass on that trip too...both of my rigs need more work than I can pull off - 40 will be at Katemcy, but likely wrecked so bad there that'll throw it away when I get home.

have fun :)

Trailer Prep

Bombing out 2K+ can be a real test on your equipment and your sanity. Here is a tip to keep you mind on the road ahead and off the loaded trailer behind you:

Lube your trailer axles, repack bearings, check and adjust breaks, examine equalizer bushings, test all lights, and evaluate your trailer spare. You do have at least one, don't you???

Double check you have an appropriate jack and lug wrench for your trailer. I find a bottle jack and a 4way lug wrench works really well. You can have a trailer tire changed in less than 5 minutes. Don't forget to hit your lug studs with penetrant like WD40 or PB Blaster if they are the least bit rusty. This makes a huge difference in the event of a blow out change. Snapping a stud out in BFE sucks.

I carry two spare tires and a spare hub assy. They rarely fail if you maintain them, but if they do go, finding a replacement while on the road means you are dropping the trailer on the side of the road and heading up the highway until you find a shop that has just the right one. You can loose a whole day like that. It is much easier to do that leg work before you hit the road and they really dont cost that much.

I also keep flares, reflective triangles, fire extinguisher, and reflective vest in the back of my truck. Changing a tire on the side of a busy highway or late at night can be really sketchy even when you are overly cautious.

If you can, travel with at least one other rig. You don't always realize when a trailer tire or bearing goes out, and another set of eyes can help save a wheel from being ground down or a hub from catching fire.

Check your lights (keep spare bulbs) and straps at every stop. Put your hand on the hub assy to see if any one of them is hotter than the rest.

Did I miss anything? Can anyone think of another Trailer Prep Tip?

Ben
