Correct? I'll bring my Moab Guide if anyone wants to look through it.
Dear BLM officials,
I am writing to you regarding the Coyote Canyon Trail. Is there anything you can do to re-open Coyote Canyon and designate it as a legal route?
I realize that the RMP limits motorized travel to “designated” route and any route to be considered for travel had to be included on the BLM maps prior to December 30, 2003. Coyote Canyon is an exception. The trail should have been on the maps before the 2003 cutoff. I'm sure it was just a simple oversight, and one that could be easily rectified.
OHV Trails are becoming very scarce where I live on the East coast. I've been planning my first trip to Moab for the past two years. I currently live in Richmond, Virginia, and plan on being in Moab in March 2009. When I heard about the closing of this trail, I was heartbroken. It was high on the list of trails we wanted to drive on.
I'm sure you are aware that with fewer trails, more stress is put on other high impact areas. With the Moab area being such a sensitive environment, the trail system needs to be spread out to limit any over use of certain areas.
The trip my club is planning will have 18 vehicles, and over 30 people traveling to Moab, adding dollars to the local economy. Future OHV closings could potentially have a direct economic impact. With our economy the way it is, you need to keep OHV access open and working relationships with OHV groups, to help keep money flowing into local businesses.
I understand that the Moab Friends for Wheeling are working with you to re-open the trail. I fully support their efforts and hope that the BLM can look at this situation with open eyes.
