I'll stop by and see Fred today....

I think the cabin is a killer for me, I would rather spend the extra $20 a night on a hotel:

All sleeping cabins feature:
Lights and Power Outlets
Private Picnic Table and Grill
Air Conditioning and Heat

Please Note: Linens for beds NOT provided ▪ No bathroom or kitchen in cabins ▪ No Pets

Rates for Big Horn Lodge the same for this date as the other dates:

list 99.95
5 roooms 79.95
10 rooms 69.95

Though I would throw this out there. AGAIN we can meet up each morning before we head out to the trails. I plan on getting a good nights sleep each night. Remember the days are long, you may be gone for 10-12 hours before returning to town. Keep this in mind when looking at fuel tanks and make sure to fill up each day. I know I almost ran out one day. I will carry a small can with me to make sure. Grocery store in middle of town to stock up on food supplies.

**Beer can be bought out there but it is only like 3-3.5 % so if you want the good stuff, bring it with you!

The State Liquor Store is right next to a NAPA Auto Parts Store. 1 Stop Shop!! Their beers have the appropriate ratings. Utah Troopers have a dim view on folks dragging in out-of-state swill.

Good point Rob. Pencil me in for a room at the lodge. After years of cat holes, slit trenches, burn barrels, and fragrant portalets around the world I appreciate the luxury of a sit-down s***ter and hot shower. Unless IPOR stocks one of those toilet seats that fit in the trailer hitch...

no but one could be made one up real quick. Do you a spring in it also so you would think you were on an aircraft also ?

Well two things. Reid stopped by the shop today and loves his truck. I also told him about the trip and he said he may try and take vacation during our trip and drive or have someone drive the 45 out to moab.

Then this afternoon I called woody and he is tentively in for the trip. He is going to the round up and it ends the weekend we are leaving so he said he may just leave Katemcy and drive on out to wheel with us.

This trip is panning out to be a real good run.

<--made my schedule, see the Trail Rides corner for my 2009 Schedule :)

WOOHOO!

Woody,

We will be glad to have you along, don't leave your keys in your rig...

I will just post my thoughts on the lodging. From the research that I have done it seems that the slick rock camp ground is very similar to that of Crawfords at Telico. They have a/c in the cabins and from what I can tell they sleep 2-4 per cabin at a lower rate.
I am only stating this because I think that is part of the whole picture being outdoors and hanging out. And if you can get a shower ( wich you can get a hot one there. ) I would think it would be the best choice.

It is also closer to the trail head. And if someone needs something from town just go get it.

My vote is for the camp ground.

One it is cheaper.

Two Hanging out and having a camp fire ( depending on the conditions.)

Three dont want to be stuck in a hotel for 4 or 5 nights and basically having to go out for every meal or to get something to drink.

You mean this place Cam?
Slickrock Campground
Looks pretty nice. It's just like the camps in Kuwait and Iraq without the near-beer and bunkers!

Hey Guys,

Cam has some good points. I think we can stay at either place as long as we meet up in the morning. I am looking at this as a vacation, with that being said, I still plan on staying at the Big Horn. I grilled out and drank beer in the parking lot, yes it was only 6 of us. I could always come down to the campground and hang out at the end of the day. I am not trying to make decisions for anyone here, I am also willing to spend a little more to make it more comfortable. No matter where we stay EACH and everyone of us will have a great time, This is like no place that many of us have ever been to before.

I will ask that between now and the Jan meeting, take a few min, do some research and lets really think about what trails you have heard of, read about, ect and pick some to do. I would like to make sure we cover as many of them as possible and that everyone has input on this trip, after all it is everyones trip. If we have a game plan before the trip we will waste less time once we are out there. This is one place you do not want to break down, Most times you will be hours away from town and camp so think about places to store, carry and pack spare parts, fluids, fuel. I can not stress enough that it is not a quick trip back to town. When Ted Szego broke his rear pinion, it tooks us 11 hours to get it and us back to town. Midnight is not the funnest time to get back after leaving at 8 am.

Does anyone know if there is a place to fill propane tank's in town( i'm sure there is just checking),I'm thinking a couple of us can double up in the cabin's too ( sleep up to four mean's 2 confortable right) save's more for turkey and coke

Rob we can also do a little part's list that we all share between 4-runner's and the truck's and cruiser's that way we all dont pack the same thing's that could split the load's up a little, let me know when the next meeting is and maybe I can come up to it if needed to join the club (pay due's) and put info in on the trip.... Kenny

Good observation Rob - wherever we stay it will be an epic trip. But I'm also confident there will be no mechanicals including Cam - but prepare for the worst. As far as trip planning goes I picked up "Guide to Moab, UT Backroads & 4-Wheel Drive Trails (2nd Edition)." From what I've read it's supposed to give pretty good gouge about the trails there including color coded trails for sissies like me. Link below and I'll bring it to the JAN 09 meeting for reference. It's going to be a pretty impressive ride.
