I've got the cd player dissasembled. Rick told me to just send him the pics when i had it disasembled, which I did a while ago, but I think he's been too busy to send them back with instructions, (which is no big deal) so I'm gonna ask up here as I would like to have a radio in sometime soon.

I have silicon spray to lube stuff with. Not sure how I should clean things. I don't want to fawk this up too bad, as I've never tried to clean a cd player manually like this.
In a different thread rick mentioned cleaning the scan rails and drive screw. I've circled what I think are the scan railes and drive screw. If someone could tell me the best way to clean and lube these items and any others while it is dissasembled, it would be much appreciated.

I think that some Qtips to start. Clean as much as you can see with them dry, Then I would use dry silicone spray available at Radio Shack, and use the red tube to direct the spray onto the rails and screw drive. A very small bit of Lithium white grease on the screw drive would not hurt.

Thanks for the quick reply!

Should I do anything with the lense? (I ran one of those Radioshack cd-head discs in it last week-is that enough, or should I do more for the lense?)

This is the silicone I have- does not say "dry" anywhere. Should I go buy the dry silicone spray from Radioshack?

Thanks again!

I wonder if electrical contact cleaner would be better suited for the job??

If Rick hasn't responded to your PM, then he's probably been drugged, beat up and tossed in a ditch somewhere. Doesn't seem like to type to blow you off.

Oh no, I know he is not, which is why I assumed he is just busy.

I did respond to the e-mail. I couldn't see the pic clear enough to accurately point out the pieces to be removed. I use brasso on the rails. You need to remove any tarnish that is on the rail. The silicone spray would be fine to use, just spray it on a rag and then wipe it on the rails and then buff dry. That will leave a nice layer on the rails but won't attract dust. Also clean the motor and drive gears and lube them. I got some teflon gel from Radio shack that worked real well.

When removing the scan assembly be careful of those ribbon connectors, you don't want to nick or crease them. And then clean the lens with a q-tip and 95% isopropyl alcohol.

I thought that the pic of the radio was blurry becasue you tried to take a close up shot, but now I see that even the spray can is blurry. You got the DTs?

Odd, I never got an email in my box, Rick.
Sorry the pic was blurred so bad, my camera takes poor up close shots. (not always that blurry)

I went ahead and cleaned, there was little tarnish, and not much gunk in the drive gears. Went ahead and did everything according to waggoner's post.

Its mostly back together, we'll see if anything changed.

I want to know how this worked for you, a new radio is way down on my list but tunes would be nice in some of the out of the way spots. I would like to fix my cd player just like you. :flipoff2:
