Cleaned MAF now it cranks but dies after 2-3 seconds RTH please!!

So I loosened the hose clamps, removed the maf housing and cleaned it out with maf cleaner, re assembled and now it wont stay running.

Please help!

Edit: I guess it would be helpful if you guys knew what vehicle I'm going on about...

The other possibility is you accidentally yanked too hard on the plug when unplugging the MAF and pulled one of the wires out. Happened to me just last week

Thanks for the quick responses! I checked the hose, all of the parts to it. no cracks or anything that I can see.. Any possibility that I ruined the maf by cleaning it? I handled it like a newborn baby, don't see anything out of order..

Did you undo the screws (bad), or loosen the wire clip (good) at the AFM harness connector to remove it? If you loosened the screws and pulled, you likely pooched the connection internally.

What did you use to clean it? MAF cleaner or brake cleaner? You can ruin it w/harsh chemicals (brake cleaner).

this is exactly what happened. I took those two small Philips head screws out to clean it and realized that I may have messed up, just put it back together but apparently I boogered it all up.

I guess I told the guy in the other thread with his 93 not to do that, but I didn't warn YOU.

So why are there screws there!??!! I though it would just come out like every single other MAF Ive ever dealt with.. SMH

Yeah, everyone asks those SAME questions.

There was a local guy that bought a LC knowing it was the most reliable vehicle in the world. He paid more than he should have for it due to his personal situation, thinking he was doing a good thing and with a few bucks, he could FIX it.

Unfortunately he had NO mechanical OR electrical knowledge and he got in over his head QUICKLY. He did that and he ended up having to sell for a BIG loss.

I stopped him one day because he had read on here about the head gaskets being a problem, unfortunately he didn't realize that he had the 3FE engine that does not have HG problems. He was one bolt away from starting to remove the head. He already had removed the throttle body, valve cover, and some other things.

Not saying that you're doing it that way, just letting you know there are others that this happens to also.

3fe no maf, you have afm you don't clean it, by undoing the screws you broke the connections, you can not buy new one,you will have to find a used one usually round 200- 400 bucks, can probably use one from any years of the 3fe but don't know for sure,also from a 3.0 90 to 95 4Runner might work not sure

I believe others have said success fixing / soldering the connections. I have no personal experience.

Where are you located? I have an extra 3fe afm I bought. It's used (not by me) thought it was the problem on my 91. Turns out it was my fuel pressure regulator. I'm located in North Florida.
