I cleaned my air filter and air box on friday evening before going on the FJ ROCKS trip. I just opened that thing up today for the first time since the run. It was full of silt, I dumped it into a tray and was the equivelant of 2 good handfuls of dusty s***.

If you haven't done so already, clean yours out!!

I think it's time to look at a different intake setup. (not a snorkel)

Thanks for the heads up alvin!! time to get a safari prefilter ;);)

Or he wasn't close enough.

I tried tucking in behind rhino and falling back from him. Either way it was dusty. I think that most of the dust came from being midway thru the pack of 30+ rigs doing 40-50mph down a dry dirt road on the way into the trail. A snorkel might have helped some, but I just don't want one of those things, especially just for clean air.

Baggins you will be amazed the differance a snorkel will make. I have compared dirt intake on the same run with Tools and where his tuna can was almost full mine barely took in any.

I'd like to suggest a "pre-filter" of pantyhose parts on the snorkles too.. Works very well for our AZ "talcum powder trail dust".

But... that's what the can and filter are for. Clean 'em, yeah... don't gripe because they're dirty. They're supposed to be dirty, if they weren't dirty, something else would be.

I just went and checked my tuna can, only maybe a tablespoon of dust in it. You must have suffered from the dreaded "Rhino syndrome"! :D

Now that's tech right there!:bounce:

I don't think I'm ready for the criticism and attention a snorkel will bring me. Especially the criticism.

I haven't gotten any criticism since I put mine on...except, maybe from you :D

Mine was pretty damn cleen:flipoff2: :bounce: :bounce2:

Why criticism? A snorkel get's your intake point up to cleaner air. Plain and simple. What's the gripe there?

I, for one, will give you (and clarkr3w) a giant heap of crap for having a snorkel. You need a higher intake? LIFT THE TRUCK!

My friends and wheeling partners down here consider them one of the stupidest unnecessary waste of money ideas one could possibly do to a truck and any argument I've ever tried to make for snorkel gets laughed off. Between the 3 of them they have over 50 years of off road experience and I have about 5, they're mechanics for a living and I'm a backyard wrencher. Do you want to listen to our advice or a bunch of people on the internet, yada yada yada yada.

yes criticism, and more of it than I really want to hear right now. But way back, deep in those places I don't talk about at parties, I yearn for a snorkel on my rig :o
