My mud friends know this truck and how much I love it. Offering up here because I want it to go to a good home.

I have decided to put up my 1986 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ60 for sale. This comes as a very hard thing to do since I love this truck dearly. Needs have changed and it is time to move on. This is not my first Land Cruiser nor will it be my last.
Truck has 258,000 miles and changing as I drive it regularly. I am the fourth owner of this truck. I purchased it just over 3 years ago from a fellow Land Cruiser enthusiast in Virginia. He had owned it for only a year prior to sale. Before that it lived its whole life in Texas. It is an extremely clean example of an FJ60. It is 97% rust free which is extremely rare.
When I purchased the truck, it was in need of some TLC. It had been sitting un-driven by the previous owner for the better part of that year. The owner before him had used it on his Texas ranch for hunting. It was dirty and a bit sad, but a solid truck that I knew was worth saving.
I set in on it’s restoration immediately. First on the list was some tidying up. Truck got a new $1400 SOR premium carpet kit to replace tired worn out carpet. While doing this, the entire interior was scrubbed down to remove years of dirt road dust.
I installed a wheel skins leather steering wheel wrap, and a SOR dash cover because years in the Texas sun had cracked the dash in a few places. I replaced broken bits like signal lenses, knobs, and other little pieces. I upgraded the stock mirrors with FJ62 reproduction mirrors from Cool Cruisers of Texas. I replaced ripped driver’s seat cover with one from a donor vehicle. and installed a Sony head unit.
Next was the engine. Truck did not idol well and power steering pump was leaking terribly. I sent the carburetor to Jim C. a well know Land Cruiser carburetor builder with years of experience. He totally rebuilt and tuned the carb better than new. It only took him four months! While the truck was down, I installed a new OEM Toyota power steering pump and hoses at a cost of over $400. I also replaced all belts, hoses, plugs, wires, filters distributor cap, rotor, and any serviceable part in the engine bay including oil pan gasket, rocker cover gasket and rear heater hoses. **I fully de-smogged the truck so be aware of your local laws. Catalytic convertor is still in place.** I scrubbed the engine down with toothbrushes and hours of labor. I painted any bracket, and polished any bolt that came off. Flushed the cooling system and so on. When the carburetor came back, another $400+, engine was “so clean I could eat off it” a friend said.
After install of Carb and new choke cable, It ran almost like a new truck. It still had a good deal of hesitation. After several fuel filters it was deterred that my gas tank was full of rust. I set out to find a new tank. I did not find a new tank, but I did find one in perfect condition out in sunny California and had it shipped out. We want mention what that cost. Many hours of labor and my truck had a like new fuel tank and all new rubber fuel lines throughout. Now it ran like a new truck!
Some other things I have done include: custom side exit stainless exhaust tip, Old man Emu steering stabilizer, tail light guards, brush guard with period correct NOS Bosch fog lights. Running boards from DTS Ultra, Stainless steel battery tray from stainlesstrays.com, receiver hitch and trailer wiring. Roundeye poly headlights and headlight stone guards. Aussie dash grab bar which I custom painted to match the dash and wrapped in beautiful top grain leather. I found a wrecked FJ62 and converted the following items from that rig. Rear speakers and cargo panels, A pillar grab bar, and rear headrests. I personally wire brushed the whole frame and painted it with industrial paint after purchase. It had a light coat of surface patina , no more than any other 30 year old car on the road. It was not rusted anywhere not in any welds or anything. This was purely a cosmetic touch because I’m picky. I also rebuilt the spare tire carrier while I was under there because it was locked up.

Now for the not so good. I have not completed all I wanted to do to this truck. It still needs a paint job. Clear coat is gone on the hood and roof. Hard to see in pics, truck really looks great from a little distance. Body is in great shape other than one small dent on the driver’s fender. I said before truck was 97% rust free. It has one small dime size surface rust by the left rear mud flap, and a couple of small spots on the rear upper tail gate (which is faded a bit) nothing to be scared of. Extremely minor spots. That is all! Paint has scratches from it’s days on the ranch. I waxed out what I could but still some scratches and one scrape on passenger fender.
Rain gutter leaked on driver’s side when it rained. I resealed it and repaired a small area of rust on the driver’s floorboard area where water had run down. It again was only surface rust. I removed it with wire wheel and painted over the area with POR15 rust treatment. Not at all rusted through!
Windshield is chipped in a few places and scratched from the wipers pretty bad, however it is the original Toyota windshield. I have planned on replacing it at some point.
Engine has started smoking some on start up and on heavy acceleration. I think it will need a new set of rings at some point, but it’s really not that bad. It uses 1.5 - 2 quarts between changes. It does not leak! It may drop an occasional drop here or there, but the new oil pan gasket took care of that.
Interior driver’s door panel has some tears in the upper vinyl. Seats have a couple of small stains but otherwise show well. AC compressor works, but system needs a charge. Aside from that, no surprises that I’m aware of.
I love this truck, I have babied it, kept it in the garage, and poured lots of love, and lots more money into it. I would not hesitate to jump in it and drive anywhere! Runs great, transmission shifts great, clutch feels strong, Tires are in good shape with lots of life left. It is fun and comfortable to drive and turns heads everywhere it goes.
I run premium fuel and after desmog and carb rebuild I average 15MPG which isn’t bad for an old Cruiser.
Truck comes with tons of spare parts. Factory radio will be included in sale in leu of aftermarket radio which I have installed now.

As much as I will hate not seeing this truck down the street from me, I can tell you all that it is absolutely beautiful. He's puts a lot of attention into the ole girl. Sad to see it go.
