CLCC Breakfast Meeting - Last Saturday of the month June 2 @9:00am at ???
WHEN: June 26 @ 9:00am
WHERE: Guys! Since we skipped MD's turn in May, the June breakfast meeting will be held in or closer to MD (unless the June Tech Day gets scheduled on the same day). Does anyone have ideas for a location in MD that has better parking options than Tastee Diner?
May 22 - Four of us met for breakfast at Cracker Barrel before adjouring to Tom's shop for some electrical education and some productive soldering. Sam's headlight relays are in place and we can now see him coming down the road in the pouring rain wearing only a bikini top (on the truck). Ed came well prepared with schematics, relays and all the pieces and parts to convert the turn signal circuit in Tom's '78 steering column to the turn signal/taillight configuration of his '71FJ40. He also got the 'relay fix' to his headlights so he is no longer left in the dark...well, when driving anyway. Jon's trailer light circuit issues could not be fixed by Ed's magic relays, so it's off to the parts store for a common blackbox solution that I suspect contains relays of some sort. Steve joined us in the afternoon after having solved his braking issues on his own and in his own driveway...Steve knows no fear. The rain dampened our hair, or what is left of our hair, but not our spirits. Another great Saturday, thanks to Tom for the use of his place and to Ed for his expertise and willingness to share it with the rest of us. Looks like Tom, Steve, and Sam have their rigs ready for the Spring Mud Fling next weekend. Hope to see more of you guys at the next Saturday get together.
April 24 - We had a small but dedicated group met up at Cracker Barrel in Manassas. Bart and his dad Jack joined Sam, John Hall and me to talk Cruisers and kick a few tires. We checked out the latest mods Sam has made. He has so much GI gear his truck is going to turn into a Humvee. Several members adjorned to the gun show, a worthwhile endeavor for sure. I headed up to Tom's to see if he needed help installing his power steering. I was such a big help it's taken his three weks to get Nellie back together. Hope to see more of you at the next one!
March 27 - We had 4 enthusiasts join us at Tastee Diner in Silver Spring, MD. What we lacked in quantity, was made up in quality. Food was good and the Blue Mule provided motivation for the rest of us to get busy on our trucks.
PS - Five (5) enthusiasts met at Tom's to dismantle a toasted FJ40. One of the wayward MD crowd managed to find his way out into the sticks to Tom's shop. It was a good time with everyone leaving dirty but happy with their new treasure. We found some interesting telltale markings on the non-OEM rear limited slip we found in the rear of this sad, but once proud, FJ. Apparently this truck had ventured into the bowels of darkest Africa as we found evidence of the limited slip installation having been done by chimpanzees with a hand axe and possibily an Uzi. It was not pretty. Tom was a very gracious host, his lovely bride fed us chili and hot corn bread (yummmmmm) and he let us use his tools and mess up his shop. To show our appreciation we left a few gallons of antifreeze (on the shop floor), used up all the old stale gas in his oxyactylene torch, and donated a few hundred pounds of scrap metal which we left in his yard. What more can you ask of great group of friends?
February 27 - We had 11 enthusiasts join us at Anita's in Vienna. We had a selection of 40, 60 and 80 series as well as an FJ Cruiser, a Bad Hilux, and a 4Runner. It wasn't too cold during the truck huddle afterwards (although we noticed Sebastien didn't stay too long). A few parts were swapped, lots of free advice and one jump start were given (Steve's in bad need of an electrical HAM day (Help A Member).
VA Locations:
We call it 'Last Saturdays' to help us remember when to show up. The next breakfast get together will happen on Saturday, March 27 starting at 9:00am.
The plan is to pick a location in VA and another in MD and if enough of us don't show up at the wrong place, we'll try and rotate odd months in MD ('cuz that state is odd) and even months will be in VA.
We can try a few different locations to get started until we find a place we like best in each locale.
Future Dates and tentative locations are:
March 27 - Tastee Diner at 8601 Cameron Street
Silver Spring, MD
April 24 - VA where? Anita's was good, try Cracker Barrel next?
May 29 - MD NOTE: May 29 is Memorial Day weekend so we will move this forward to the 22nd
June 26 - VA
July 31 - MD
August 28 - VA
Sept 25 - MD
October 30 - VA
November 27 - MD
Dec 11 - Vienna Inn (traditional)
