With an AWD vehicle this is crucial...something RWD/FWD I'd say it's less important.

Any additional rotation per corner in an AWD system would/could wear other components unevenly or damage components due to varying rotation speed(however slight).

I'll do the 5 tire rotation on the red truck until I downsize the fleet...if I do.

Cost being a factor...
325$ with a rim and tire is cheap for piece of mind and some shops will rotate the spare as standard rotation package if negotiated(or they aren't a$$holes).

Extra overall life
Added sense of safety
Longevity of rotating parts(if spare is used)

Win win

unless you are buying bfg at's, then you will just have to hate them 20% longer.

Not sure want to follow your tire recommendations..
I followed your shock advice and swapped my OMEs for Procomp and now on the highway my 80 feels like I'm riding a goat that is standing on a magic carpet.

What if you blow a tire at say 70% tread. Do you buy two new tires, or just rotate in the 5th and buy a junk tire to get you through the duration of the set?

What if you do buy two new ones, you now have 2 spares. Do you rotate 4 and have one "emergency" tire until the other two tires finish wearing enough to rotate your other two back in a keep one of the original 5 as your now "emergency" tire? Or do you keep the two and buy two more and now have 8?

Wait... I ran out of fingers. I'll have to get some cookies to help illustrate eating chips.

Preparing for the worst aye...

If I had a spare...I'd rotate it in for the time being and prepare to get another set of tires. That's part of it. Short term id say get to safety with what you've got...riding around on different sized tires is foolish, especially in an AWD.

Just my .02

Saying awd in the 80 section is like going into the 40 section with an upside down bezel.

nothing wheels better than a mountain goat riding a magic carpet.
That's probably true.. I know I have felt like this guy in the 80 before.

Hahaha...I shutter to think...

So five tires is always better than four.. Six is the best but by seven your just being silly.
Got it.

Now quit crapping up my build thread; or you will force me to post my shopping guide for finding the perfect size coffee cup to fit the super big gulp cup holder.

You added a cup holder ad DIDNT include it in your so called "build" thread?!? How is it a build thread if you don't document all your mods??

No the holder is built in factory direct. The guide is for picking out the right 44 oz coffee cup to fit in it. The last thing a hundy owner wants is to have his/her coffee spill on their morning commute because there cup is too small. God forbid one would use the passengers cup holder that would mean having to reach another 3 inches... This is a big problem for us hundy guys but I guess you wouldn't know anything about our problems.

Factory cup holders?!? There are no cup holders in land cruisers!

Mccaffe or duncan donuts

Oh no.. No... No
I could never be caught at near an establishment that passes stagnant toilet water off as coffee.

Starbucks is the lowest that I will allow my self to succumb.

It is widely known and frankly accepted as fact amongst us fellow hundiers; that expedition nirvana can only be truly achieved after you install the espresso bar complete with a tiny elf like barista to make you the perfect lattes while you are on the trail.

Does the elf speak Starbucks? Or does the hundoe crowd have a proprietary lingo when discussing elf made coffee-like beverages...if so ask the elf what a "iced caramel macchiato" is called in hundoe-coffee-nese...

A properly trained barista elf just knows...
He anticipates what you will order and will have it in your hand before you even know you want it.
Mine has a long way to go. He just sits in the back and flings poo at me.

I'm thinking about taking it to the dealership to get him checked out.
It is absolutely unacceptable in a vehicle of this caliber to have a poo flinging barista elf!

Pretty sure I have 8 cup holders. Man you sure were serious about keeping your build thread on topic. This whole thread should probably be merged with the knitting circle thread.

Let me know when you get a topless barista elf!
