Stuck on Hall Johns in South Dakota. That would be the time that I broke 5 birfields in two days in about 30 yards of trail.

Stock 1FZFE, 40" tires, 5.29 gears.

Dang! That birf looks like it litterally exploded!! i stand corrected about someone breaking a bell housing :doh: Wow!

Also the Black Hills Cruiser Classic? I think it's the same place with trails like Upper and Lower Buzzworm.
 
Well I did the same with 2 of the new fields(non heavy duty) before christo, the bells exploded the same way, I went back to stock toyota. remember that chrom moly is softer(can with stand more flex before braking though) but will not wear as long as the stock toyota. So in a full time rig you may wear them out faster than a stock birfield. I would think that if you do have not problems and are running less than 35 inch tire a stock one is the way to go, but if you are running bigger tires then 35 and is not a daily driver or you run locking hubs and do not run the front axles all the time it might be a great way to go(longfields that is). will save over 350 dollars a pair over stock prices. good luck either way. later robbie
