Has anybody removed the chrome strip that runs from the bottom of the A-pillars and then around the roof line? I'm thinking about getting my truck painted and am curious about just removing this thing.

Jeff

Yes, alot of people dechrome everything and replace the rear window trim with plain black..

someone posted the manafacturer that sells the window trim, if anyone has a direct fit replacement source I'd be interested as well.

The tinted back windows in my wagon would probably look a little cleaner without the side trim having th e trim removed.

An old bodyman friend showed me a trick for that type of moulding. I have not actually tried it on a 60 but it works great on old Dodge trucks:

Get an old style beer can/bottle opener, the kind that punches a triangular hole in a can and the opposite end pops off bottle caps. Put some tape on the bottle opening end to keep from maring the moulding and use the opener to pop the moulding off of the driprail. Pry up gently and slide the opener down the moulding an inch or two and repeat. You will want to have the little tongue thingy under the bottom edge of the moulding when you pry up.

will removal leave any types of previous mounting holes, or will it be nice and clean? if anybody has done this and can post some pics that would be great, too, thanks.

I took the molding off of my rig and it didn't leave any marks or holes for mounting. Well there where no marks execpt the rust that was already there. Sorry I have no pics though.

If you're not going to save it, just pull it off. that's what I did. No marks, no holes.

so it's just attached with toyota-strength adhesive? and i don't need to worry really about hurting the paint finish since i'm gonna repaint the truck anyway?

i found a combination of a roof rack, and off camber section, and a tree work great for getting rid of that pesky chrome on the raingutter.

I pulled mine off shortly after I got my truck, it was really easy. I don't even think there was much of an adhesive, it just clipped to the edge of the gutter. The parts are down in the basement, I should probably toss them out since I don't have the truck anymore.

Comes off easy. It's in 4 or 5 pieces and the joints have a little sleeve over them. I started at the front and just popped it off. No damage, no clips or holes, looks good underneath. If your going to save it, be careful not to let it buckle when you get a long piece free. There is a right-side-up so you might want to either mark it or just take a mental note if it won't be off long.

HAHA the girl had the coolest way to get it off so far.....she beat you dan!!!

The PO on my truck had a roof rack on it which marred the hell out of this gutter trim and of course held moisture against the body, causing rust. Also scratched the top, causing more rust. I have removed every piece of trim from my truck because it is responsible for every spot of rust on it. That means consider removing the trim around your wheel wells, and especially the lower running boards trim. Low=closer to the moisture. On the latter, however, there are mounting holes, but I still think it's worth removing to save the truck from rust.

That is exactly why I had rust on my 60. I have since removed anything that resembles trim. However, I now need to fill the holes from removing the trim on the bottom of the rig. I think removing the trim cleans up the overall look.

The rain gutter crap does come off simple. Unclip and gently pull. Also removed lower strips and filled holes when I painted, it looks much cleaner.

Hurry up 82-SOA-60 we have a bunch of work to do to that rig! I think the powertrain swap is more important than the holes and paint, we can knock the cosmetics out in one good weekend.

Yup.

The money shows up on Tuesday. Then we will have plenty of things to do to my cruiser.
