Chrome Roof Strip Removal

should pull off without using much more than your fingers. it's a plastic component that snaps over the metal raingutter. remove the c-clips that hide the joints first, then simply pry the molding off.

if you're taking that off, pull all of the rest as well. makes for a very clean truck, a great look, and eliminates all of the rust potential in those areas, especially the pieces on the lower rocker panels. the trim around the rear windows/liftgate can be removed as well but you will have to replace the window seals with ones from a non-U.S. spec vehicle that didn't ship with the chrome insert. the chrome rails on the driver and passenger doors, front & rear, that hold the window sweeps are more of an issue. do it, you won't regret it...

here's a shot of ours with the above mentioned chrome removed. let's see if this will work....if the pic didn't post, PM me and I'll email you some pics

thanks 82-SOA-60, she's a labor of love and a work in progress.....a good truck is never "done" now is it ;)

there's a few more Oregonians lurking on this board....

took the plunge and removed the rain gutter strip as well as the snake blinders

WOW - looks a hell of a lot better already, wish i'd have done this months ago

thanks to everybody for their input, now it's off to the body shop for roof rack removal. i'm gonna have them weld all the holes shut from the crappy roof rack and snake blinders before paint, trying to eliminate any other areas prone to moisture.

It's top secrect, I can't telll ya and if I do tell ya I'm gonna have to kill ya...So only patride is aloud to read this...

I'm going to get the it two toned in black all the way around the truck up to that indented line that wrapes around the truck...the only place im going to follow that line is at the front fenders..The front fenders will be two toned about 4 inches above the wheel well.

haha ya bastid %$#@^

sounds very kewl. is it gonna be a DIY job or are you gonna pay and have someone do it?

i would like to paint mine myself, but i'm not gonna rattle can it. i haven't figured out the color yet though. it is on my long list of things to do with the cruiser once i have some money.

rather than start a new thread....got to thinking about other rust areas on the 60.

what about the stock mud flaps. mine are still on and seem to have rust at the tops of them on the fender. seems like they would hold a lot of moisture against the fenders.
any real reason to keep em on there or better to get them off and not have a rusty fender?

i might pull mine off but wanted to see what everyone else had to say too.

yulp im doing it myself...I took my truck to get it painted and they fawked it up.....took my truck to a garage twice fawked it up both times....Ever since then I do all my own work...Its prob better that way...

so when ya painting it? post up once you do and give the details and post pics too...even though i know you will anyway.

did you read my message on this thread about the mud flaps? did you take yours off or do you still have yours? i plan on taking mine off, but i'm afraid of how much rust is hidden under there. it is all bubbly around them all ready, so i know it might be bad.

I sorta do the same thing, just in a different sequence. I take my truck to a garage, rent the lift & space, fawk it up, then have the mechanic bail me out. Or at least that's suppose to be how it works.

:D

I took my mud flaps off, but not by choice! I was backing up in the woods and tore both front flaps off. Oh, man, the rust!!! Actually, I like the way it looks WITH the mudflaps, but since you can't screw them into metal that's no longer there, I'll be doing without until I can buy new fenders!

I've done this on the front. My window guy (owns FJ60 even) just ordered it up from Toyota afaik.
