I made it home about 5. The rest of the crew stopped at Los Ojos. I needed to get home to work on my schoolwork. We had 4 vehicles:

Me and the family in the 100
Keith, Han and baby in their 80
Mike and Kevin in his 80
Dan and Andrew in Dan's Faux-Lux

There was very little snow. In between the snow patches on 126, there was ridiculously dry dirt and the trucks kicked up enough dust that I could hardly see where I was going. There were a ton of people out getting their trees as well. The wheeling was mild with only 1 spot giving me a little trouble. I was across and obstacle with one front and the opposite rear wheel in the air or barely touching. I hit the gas and they just spun. I had to engage the rear locker to get up it. Keith and Dan took some pictures so they'll hopefully show what I'm talking about. One of my pictures below shows it right after Keith had gone up it.

Even though the snow was lacking we all had a great time. This was Kaden's first time out and he managed fine. He slept most of the time in his car seat...probably due to the soothing vibes of 4wd! Many thanks to Dan for hauling our tree to the house.

oh my, that next to last one is CUTE!

Sorry, I should have posted up. I am out. My aunt from Turkey is coming today for her first trip out to the American West. I need to entertain her for the next three days.

Gonna take her wheelin?

Add in 3 or 4 stitches for a cut on my left, middle finger. In the ER now with the finger all numbed up. Fun times!

What happened? Got in a bar fight at Los Ojos? Trimming the tree? Good to know you take the time to update the thread while you're in the waiting for stitches at the ER. I guess why not if you've got nothing else to do but wait.

Ended up being five. Guess my finger got caught under the blade while trimming the bottom branches and making the tree about eight ft instead of ten. It looks good though - better than my finger does. Han also tells me I cannot say NM words correctly. I said O-Joes and not O-Hos

You'll have to post up pictures of the finished product (the tree and the finger).

Let me guess. You were trimming the tree with that new axe you bought for cutting the tree?

:D

Zing!

Here's three pictures I snapped. You'll notice that they are all pretty much in the same spot. turns out that when you can keep going easily (no snow) that I don't have as much time for picture taking.

Meh.

I wish! Then I wouldn't have needed a trip to the ER! No kerf with the axe would have been a good thing. Next time I'll make sure the support hand doesn't slip when the branch breaks.

Thanks for the pics and trip report everyone! However, it's pretty sad to have a Tree Run with *almost* no snow. Usually, we have more than we know what to do with. Maybe by our New Year's Day Run, we'll have plenty.

Keith - sorry to hear about your accident. Here's hoping for a quick recovery!

Evan

Maybe today's storm will lay down a good foundation for any runs over the next two months.

Dalton run was good, though not much wheeling. I was with 2 TJs (they didn't need any front flares, I asked) As soon as we turned on the road into Dalton Canyon, I had a feeling we wouldn't get far. The road was plowed, but the sides were deep. We drove in and headed up out of the canyon on road 123 and it was pretty slick. We went up a half mile or so, trail leader started spinning in place, a little behind him I did the same then started sliding downhill toward the other rig. Stopped before I hit him. A truck was coming down with chains and said they had to turn around just a little above us. so we stopped, hiked around to find trees, let the girls go sledding for an hour or so during lunch and made our way back out.

I suspect if it had been a larger group, or a group from HDC, there would have been a greater attempt to keep going up, but it was a good day anyway. I have bald 31s on my 40 that I took off the troopy, so I was struggling anyway. I was a bit surprised when we called it quits at the first stuck, though. If I get any good pics from Tony, I'll post them up.
