It looks like there won't be much of a snow run. I know this run is still a few days away, but any idea where we want to go? Repeat last year? I'm bringing Da'40, no chains. If we manage to get some of the white stuff I'll bring the 4Runner with chains. Also, the forecast is for really, really cold temperatures. On second thought, I might bring the 4Runner with the bun warmers.

Wuss. :flipoff2:

I'll be in my uber toasty faux-lux though, so I can afford to yell that at you, as long as I don't leave the window rolled down for too long. ;)

I think you're right about the lack-of-snow. I'm not so concerned about not having chains this year. That general area was good, but I don't know enough about those trails to know if there's any more interesting tracks we could follow. Without snow the route we took last year would be a cakewalk.

I'll bring the Reactor so we can make lots and lots of hot chocolate (or tea, if you wish). A liter of water boiling in less than 3 minutes is AWESOME.

The NM 4wheelers are going to the Pecos, where there might be more snow. Might be an option, certainly a change of venue would be interesting.

Copy/paste:

Next Sunday the 13th we will meet at the outlet mall in Santa Fe at
9:30. We will head up to Pecos and get our permits at the gas station.

Then we will continue up to the Dalton Canyon area. I lead this last
year and we found a great area to wheel and get trees. If this year is
like last, there will be snow and ice and some great scenery.

I will send out some maps tomorrow. This is an area that we rarely go
to as a club, I have lead two runs and that is all since I have been a
member.

See you there.

Dalton Canyon is nice. I was up there this last fall a few times. Never did figure out where the road went. Not enough time.

Why are they getting the permits at the gas station? The FS office is right in town. Do they not sell them?

I'd vote for more snow. And I have LOTS more exploring to do of the Pecos in general.

I'm in for either, although I'd lean towards Pecos personally.

The only issue with the Pecos is the 1.5 - 2 hours it takes to get there, then the same time home. You consume half a day just up and back which doesn't leave much time for wheeling. I made the trip to Dalton twice this fall for work and it consumed most of the days. The second trip up we knew exactly where we were going and it still took almost at least 6 hours.

ya whiner, it takes me that long to get to walatowa :p
I'll be working in the Valles Caldera this saturday, so won't be on the no-snow run.

they are getting xmas permits at the gas station because the fs office isn't open on sunday. There are a few vendors selling permits for us to facilitate after-hours and weekends. Also the FS regional office in abq on broadway sells them for us, though they don't advertise it.

If my professor hadn't assigned another homework yesterday (which takes about 8 hours to complete) and I didn't have the term paper to write (which is due Tuesday) I'd still be in. If I only had one of those to do, I'd still be in.

I have better chances of making it to a New Years Day or Superbowl Run, since I won't have school-work deadlines to contend with.

I had hopes the Jemez were getting pounded, but I guess not.:frown: hopefully it will happen before our run!

Fingers crossed! I measured 4" at the shop today before it stopped snowing. But when I went into town it sure didn't look like anything hitting the Jemez.... sigh.

Dan

I may be able to go after all. I don't see that a final decision was made on where to go. We may not have snow in the Jemez but mud and ice are still fun and I enjoy just getting out of town, driving in the woods and being teased about where I keep the Grey Poupon and Perrier.

how many people are actually getting trees?

should we be shifting the run to next Sunday?

I'll grab a tree if I see a real nice one. But I don't NEED a tree. I also wouldn't be opposed to doing the run next Sunday (you're talking about the 12th?).

I'm good for tomorrow, but if next Sunday we might see some snow, then I might go out then anyway.

Dan

I'm not getting a tree. I just need to get out.

I can go tomorrow. I can go Sunday. Considering how busy I've been this week I could use tomorrow off to catch up.

I didn't look at my calendar. there is a birthday party on the 13th(next Sunday).

I should have looked at the calendar too. I also have conflict. Guess I'll be there tomorrow.
