Choke Cable Fix or Replace? 85 FJ60

Pulled the choke know out at start up the other day and when I went to push it in there was no tension. Pulled the choke knob assembly out today (see picture) and this is what I am dealing with. Cable appears to be hooked up on the carb end. Do I replace or is there a fix for the assembly?

It almost seems like it needs to be crimped down like electrical wiring, but I am looking for a long term fix.

Same thing happened to me last summer. I just ordered a new one from SOR.

I think you are right from what I can tell. I would try and crimp it and see if it stays.
