I recently bought a 1979FJ 45 out of Saudi Arabia. It’s got a number of basket case issues one of which is the rear hub leaking. On further investigation it looks like one of the studs became stuck and they tried getting it out with a grinder so the mating surface is not flat and I also have a crooked wheel stud on one of my other hubs upfront.

Looks like the OEM and even Japanese aftermarket rear hubs are unobtainable. Cruiser outfitters sells a higher quality Japanese made version but it’s out of stock with no idea if/when it will be restocked.

The only place I’ve been able to find a *potential* Japanese made hub is on Amayama but they tend to say they have parts available when they really don’t and I’m awaiting confirmation from them.

What’s everybody else using? I’m hesitant to use an Amazon/Chinese version. I have OEM bearings and seals and would use OEM wheel studs, but I’m concerned with the fit/finish and metal quality of Chinese products.

So exactly how flat does the surface need to be to have a stud seat. Mix up some metal filled epoxy and pull the new stud in place, let it cure. I'm sure at least one of the vendors has wheel studs, maybe try your local T dealer

Wasn't that same rear hub used forever on the 70 series before going to a 5 bolt pattern?
It does look like it might have been used through the 60 series. It’s for a full float rear axle with drum brakes.

It’s ground down pretty deep, I might try to weld in some material and tap out the hole.

Did you ping the Cruiser Outfitters team on the Japanese units? We have many pallets coming in regularly.

Yeah, I called but the gentleman I spoke to said it didn’t know if it would be coming back in stock. After scouring the Internet and finding every source essentially out of stock/discontinued it’s starting to look a little grim. I’d hate to put a Chinese hub on so I might just weld this a little more and try to grind it flat and re-tap.

Shoot over an email with that part number. The email crew has a bit more insight and bandwidth to dig into parts supply. I'd be shocked if we dont have more coming from Japan. Info@cruiseroutfitters.com
