They are a pretty common conversion over here we've had a lot of secondhand 1UZ engines flood our market over the past 8-10 years but they are typically lacking in torque for a 40 series cruiser size/weight truck a lot of the guys with them here are putting superchargers on top to get a bit more bite low down, we've found they are better suited to hilux/surf/tundra/mini trucks/prados or whatever you happen to call them in your country, had a bit of a play around in a mates 1UZ supercharged chopped down surf a while back and that was setup well and went like :censor: :p:p

My 4Runner (hilux surf in your nexk of the woods) outweighed my FJ40 by about 500-600lbs. At least, and my 40 still has the boat anchor in the front (2F). Not sure why a 40 would be too heavy and a 4runner not...

Are the Hilux variants running lower gears, like 4.88s or 5.29's?

not really I've always done chevys not 1uz's, most of them here are autos or using R series boxes but one of the guys on our NZ forum had one in his cruiser with a H55F gearbox he pulled it out a few months back and went to an auto trans and sold his conversion kit, I think it was an aussie marks adaptor kit he paid around $3k AUS for it, he was using a 3b H55F gearbox with the longer input shaft hence the extra spacer you can see in the pic

teah i kn ow a lot of oaks use the h55f but on ly thing is in South-Africa those gearboxes are hard to come by and pretty expensive!

That kit is made by Dellow Conversions (http://dellowconversions.com.au/)
here's a link to a build here on 'mud using the kit
https://forum.ih8mud.com/40-55-seri...resh-mod-down-chassis-2f-out-1uz-v8-pics.html

I got quotes from them recently, c.$3K NZ, for h55f to 1uz kits, but I lost intrest in dealling with them as they were a bit average at getting back to me and couldn't answer my questions around wether they could tailor a kit to any of the availible h55f input shaft lengths (probably should have just called them, rather than email!)

Its a shame that the R151F is too long for a '40 - the 1UZ R151F combo is pretty easy to sort out over here - lots of bellhousing kits etc mostly for Surfs/hilux/forerunner.

hi guys has any one ever tried mating a 1uzfe engine to the stock toyota 4 speed? is it possible? :ban:

A kit (maybe availible from dellows??) designed to work with a 5 speed (H55f) from behind a 2F would work, since the 4 speed and the 5 speed from behind the 2F have the same input shaft.

Note that there are many different H55Fs out there from behind many different toyota motors - 2F, 3F, 1HZ, 3B etc, which have different input shaft lengths (hence the big spacer in that kit above).

Have a search of this forum and you'll find tons of info on this topic.

Hey have any of you guys got like a link to the instruction manual on putting a chevy 350 in a fj45 ? If found a few manuals but only very vaque ones arent there any more detailed ones?

Hi there guys the next question is about the ranger torque splitter ! I wanted to know if there is like another vehicle of or something which came standard with these splitter? Or is advance adapters the only place that sells it? As im located in south africa importing one is really really expensive!

Looks likes like a multitude of different set ups. When anyone changes their motor, trans, and t-case do you run the toyota axles with the driveline going from center to offset and down or do you swap axles too to line things up? I have currently have the drive line that goes down AND to the offset rear. Looks weird but seems ok. Anyone else?

This generally would buzz you out of the cab a 60 mph. Normally have to use a center diff with a center drive shaft. Although the u-joints will take the larger angles, they're not very happy on those angles at higher speeds!!!

GM Performance 350 290HP Crate Motor With a 700R4 transmission, running 32/11.50/15 (will moving up to 33/10.50/15 next tax return). Currently I can cruise on the freeway 75 mph at about 2300 rpm on flat ground.
What gearing?

Anybody ever install a 307 chevy instead of a 350? How much do you notice not having that extra .25" stroke and 43 cubic inches?

I am starting to doubt putting a 307 (free motor) in my daughter's cruiser.

It's certainly been done, however, the motor right now seems to be the LS based 5.3 vortecs.
Unless the motor in the rig is currently shot, personally, I'd just hold out to get an LS Based vortec.

Did you look in the Tech Vault at AdvanceAdapters.

I have a Small Block Chevy in stalled by a previous owner(most likely the car collector Bud Mick in Novi, Michigan) and it got a few performance parts added. I don't like to do more that 70. I like to keep it at about 65 when I'm going some where. I am trying to keep my foot out of the carb as laying rubber at lights eats too much gas. It's nice to have the power if I need it. A modest SBC will make your FJ40 feel like a sports car but you don't dare drive it like that.
