Well ok so here i am on a slope going up stuck in the mud. got 6000lbs+ of a truck; me; my friends; my family on one side of it. And then i got this cheap winch trying to pull us out with a metal cable under insane potential energy, which could snap, truck rolls back, it overheats and cathes fire etc etc. It maybe be fine but a winch is not something id like to cheap out on. Anything under $1000 and 10000lbs or more is sketchy in my books

If it is all you can afford, it will the do the job as well or better than what you have now.

Chinese stuff if getting better. Remember when the term "made in Japan" infered cheap quality. Well there are still plenty of cheap Japanese cars and trucks on the road from back when that term was popular.

Still would not buy it
Get the Smitty Built if anything for like $50 more and free shipping

Harbor Freight

Harbor freight has their 12K on sale on their websire for $399 if you print that out they will honor the price in store and you can use a 20% off coupon. so total $320+tax for a 12,000 lb winch is a steal if you ask me. and they have a good warranty.
here's the link.

12,000 lb. Off-Road Vehicle Winch with Automatic Load-Holding Brake

Would not buy that one either
Spend alittle extra money like only $100 and get the smitty built
you wont regret it.
I went around and around with this and bought a Warn
the smitty built will suit you fine

For 427 total from amazon you can get a superwinch lp10000, or for 555 get an epi9.0 Personally I'd ether pony up and get a slightly more expensive, good quality winch(Warn m8000 or superwinch ep9 are a few that can be found for not much money) or find one second-hand, lightly used, from a name brand company. My 2 cents.

If you've ever winched a stuck 80 in anger you'll have some appreciation of the forces at work in the mount, winch, cable and rigging.

If you need a winch to fill a hole in your front bumper, then this winch would be perfect. Even has a neato sticker that says Winch 10000lb.

If you plan to extricate your vehicle then stick with name brand stuff and my preference for a winch would be Made in the USA. I've used Warn winches for 20+ years and they've never let me down. Spare parts are still available as well as upgrade parts.

If you are looking to save some money, look for a 2nd (or 3rd or ...) hand Warn etc versus buying some made in china pot metal winch.

cheers,
george.

Ford Explorer is cheaper than a Cruiser.... did you go buy one yet???

Ive got a b rand new smittybuilt 10k in an unopened box ill sell for $399. I just got laid off and need the $$. It was going on my 80 til my job went poopoo

I know my cruiser stalled out a 10,000lb warn last time I got stuck in the snow. Not sure if I would trust any off brand after that one tug...

the guy from Mile Marker works for Harbor Freight now.....all of those casings and internals are made in China. (For Smitty, Warn, etc.)

If you use it to move a tree, so be it, don't expect to move a house.

good luck with your purchase, let us know how it works out.

I have a cheap MM 12 ( actually the very first electric MM outthere ) mit did the job plenty of times .. and few it fails ( the situation was tuff ).

If I need to do it again .. ( as I did actually ) 16.5 for all LWB full body Cruisers ..

The Chinese seem to make 10 different generic models of winches and put 10 different brand labels on each. I have seen enough no-name Chinese winches with T-max and Superwinch label parts on them to think that they are probably coming off the same lines with the same components. The specific components on them are probably more important to the overall quality than the label on them.

If you plan to go off road like 3 times a year and dont do heavy duty trails ,then for the money its not bad. ( or even just for " The cool look " )....but as soon your friends notice that you have a winch they will count on you for pull them out ,even if you are in home at night and get a call for some rescue heep or something like that...ask me how i know. Now before i go wheeling i ask who's going if i notice im on the few with a nice winch and no ones have even a rope...no thanks..:meh: Warn 8274-50 with blue rope..just saying
