If you are thinking an cheap winch .. Warn just came out with the cheap line .. at least you should have Warn support and parts if the winch fails ..

Support and parts it's the name of the game IMOP in winch arena ..

Buy a quality used unit if you need to save money, having a nice warranty wont get you off the trail if it breaks while you are using it.

I install a few winches a year. I have installed countless Smittybuilts and other than the engage handle could be a little tougher, they are a great winch.

I would not buy a HF winch. Have always been crap. Now they have a new different looking one that is more expensive. The higher price suggests it may be better but Im not a gambler.

I would not buy a MM. They are slow as hell and sound like they are full of gravel. Basically the same as the import but with a higher price. Look to be made out of the same parts as the imports.

I would not buy a Superwinch unless you were in the market for a hydro winch unit. Im not impressed by the price or performance of their electric units tho.

I would buy a new Warn laydown I series. Or a used 8274 upright if you have tons of space and some overload springs.

My poor smitty has pulled tons of rigs. Last week I used it and two snatch blocks to unload a 4K knuckle boom off a flatbed. 4K hanging is a little different.

at a local auction here i bought a skid of 24 10,000lb winches for a hundred bucks .i was happy because of the spare parts. even after winching out a stuck 6x6 and many other trucks the damn thing still works and thats the front one .the rear one has winched countless cars and trucks onto my trailer the 3rd winch on the truck is in the bed and winches scrap or snomobiles onto the truck .i hate chinese crap but these have worked so far.some chinese junk is made to iso 9000 specs so check the box for that rating.i use a pto or warn 8724 for my personal off road or mud trucks .good luck

Before you buy the HF one (I bought a 10K HF model) do some research. It actually got descent reviews on a winch comparison article floating somewhere online. The only drawback: it was relatively slower than the rest (Warn etc.)

Harbor freight has their 12K on sale on their websire for $399 if you print that out they will honor the price in store and you can use a 20% off coupon. so total $320+tax for a 12,000 lb winch is a steal if you ask me. and they have a good warranty.
here's the link.

FYI, we do offer the WARN VR10000 if that's the capacity you're looking for.
