I just noticed that you mentioned getting rid of the charcoal canister. I would be wary of that. I think someone reported an engine fire after they did that and I am not sure I understand why you would want it gone in the first place. If yours is clogged, the simple fix is to replace it with the VC-120 that comes off a Pontiac or something. I got mine online through AutoZone. https://www.autozone.com/engine-management/vapor-canister/duralast-vapor-canister/239708_0_0

That missing tube is not vacuum. It’s Off the exhaust gas tube that leads to the egr valve. I’m surprised you don’t hear an obnoxious exhaust leak.

I don’t think you will notice a appreciable amount of difference in the way your 80 runs after removing all that stuff. I’m all for removal but don’t think there is really much to be gained from deleting it.

If she is idling rough, the egr valve may be hung open slightly.

Over the weekend my check engine light on my ‘93 came on cruising down the highway. The idle is a little rough, but otherwise the truck runs great. I pulled codes, and it looks like I'm getting a code 71, which is the EGR sensor.

I also noticed a vacuum port on the EGR solenoid is running to atmosphere. Could this be the issue? Does anyone know where this line is supposed to run?

Also, I'm interested in deleting the EGR and PAIR system anyway. Would this be a good time to do it? Will I constantly get a CEL if I delete EGR?

Very late response but in case someone else is going through this thread working on the infamous Code 71 .... There is supposed to be vacuum line between those two nipples in the picture. Runs from the horizontal metal one circled to the vertical (tan in this picture) pointing down.

Working through mine now. Going to check that the ports are clear before buying the new EGR Modulator (TPN 25870-66010)

Updated: Pretty heavy carbon build up in the circled port. Cleaned it and the vacuum hose. Idle now very smooth. MPG improved approximate +15% (only one half tank run). Will update if CEL comes back (but not expecting it).
