Would a low mileage (50K) set of 97 LC springs and shocks be an upgrade for my aging 92 suspension? I have the opportunity to pick some up pretty cheap. I don't think the wife is going to go for the full OME setup right now. OME860/861 - $280, steering dampener $65, OME N73/N74E $304 = $649

Anyone know if the 97's have a different spring rate than my 92? TIA

I'm not certain but I think you shouldn't actually pay for them since several folks have them lying around and would give them to you for just the cost of shipping. I know mine have ~75K miles on them and have sat in my garage since I took them off and my wife would PAY YOU if I gave them to you :D

FWIW, $100 for the pieces plus ~$20 for shipping as the proximity was close. Are you offering? ;)

I wouldn't buy those for $100 out of principle - they're not doing you any favors. And they should have at least shipped them for free. I had a set of springs with 65k on them that I just put in the trash two weeks ago. My wife was not as forgiving in the space they were taking up ::)

I dont theink they will help you at all slamb,
they might not be as tire as yours but they are the same spirng rates form 91 -97. not helping you at all in my opinion.

Yeah, I'm offering. I'm dead serious that I've got the 4 springs taking up space and I really don't have a reason not to throw them away other than I'm a packrat. I agree with Dave though that they probably won't change your ride height or anything. One thing you might try as a stop-gap measure are the Mr.Gasket spring spacers (#1285). They're cheap and provide about 1" of lift on top of your existing springs. They'll give you a chance to see if that much lift is what you'd be happy with without changing the spring rate of your stock setup. If you'd rather go higher later they're always nice to have around to push up your front end when you add a bull bar and winch. Still, if you're set on trying the 97 stock springs PM me and I'll get them out to you - with the wife's best regards.

I don't quite know how to reply, but here goes. Pretty cheap is too much to pay for used LX springs and shocks. I will bet they will not be any better. If you post in the wanted section I bet you could pick up those for the cost of shipping.
Cheers,
Sean

These were from a LC not an LX as I understand the LX has a lighter rate. The price included the stocks springs, bushings and steering dampener. The bushings and shocks are really bad on mine. No idea the condition of the springs but they don't appear to have ever been subjected to severe coil bind.

Not really looking for more lift right now, just a better ride. It rides pretty hard right now and loose in the bumps. Does fine in mild offroading but onroad ride stinks. Shocks are at the end of their life as the pushed down bumper test shows. I'd like to pick up the OME light lift but after all the reapirs of late it's not in the budget.

Won't do squat.

Save up and replace it the right way.

If low miles is what you are looking for I've got a set with less than 8,000 miles on them ;)

Seriously, the benefit of going to used OEM is not worth more than the clown's very fair offer of just the shipping costs.

slambson,
if you are looking for something to smooth out the ride get some oem shocks. they are cheap and it will actually smooth out the ride. springs will not help you here.
Dave

Mmmm... C-dan has the OEM shocks for less than $100 a set. Hmmm.....OEM or a set of OME 73/74's? I could probably get away with shocks just not everything right now.

That is what I would recommend,
get the oem shocks as it is cheap and might solve your problem. especially if the harsh ride is your big concern.
Dave

That's what I did for now. Called C-dan and ordered the shocks. He had found the springs too. I'll try out a practically new suspension out and see if the wife-o-meter approves. Wow, I could not believe how cheap the OEM shocks were. Should be less than $100 shipped. Great service and a dang nice guy. :)
