First time I did that it was -40C and my truck was dead on the side of the road. Good times.

Huh, I never realised filters are in that cramped places on some cruisers... On mine (HJ) it got plenty of room around it so you can just grap it and unscrew the old one...

Nice video Louis.

I'd like to add (for the benefit of any viewer who doesn't already realise) that this procedure applies to engines with rotary injector pumps that have a fuel-return line going back to their fuel tank.

With B, 2B, H, 2H engines etc that use inline pumps and are without this return line, you must open the bleed valve on the outlet line from the top of the fuel filter to expell all air from there while you operate the primer pump and before you attempt to start your engine.

Or seize the opportunity to fill up your fuel filter with Sea Foam.

BTW, thank Louis to share this to the Cruiser community !

Great video, I'm going to watch some of your others as well!

Where are you guys finding your seafoam, and do you fill the entire filter with it??

i second that about the seafoam. How much? Where can I pick it up?
Louis, i ended up ordering a filter strap like you right after this video.
I do another trick that gets the PITA filter off which will now be like you.

Yes, you simply fill up the filter... and screw it back.

You can find Sea Foam at Canadian Tire : http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/browse/4/Auto/3/AutoFluidsChemicals/FuelTreatments/PRD~0387800P/Seafoam+Motor+Treatment.jsp?locale=en (it come in special +/- once a month at CT for +/- 9$) or there : http://www.seafoamsales.com/canadian-retailers.html

NAPA has Seafoam. When it comes on sale it usually is at least 1/4 - 1/3 off. Retail is about $12. Many parts stores have it. A new store started up here and had it on sale for $7 a can, so I bought 1/2 dozen of them. There are a few Seafoam products. Make sure you buy the one for the engine.

yes, nice vid.
i do it the other way you described at the beginning of the vid. it usually less messy and i find it easier in the long run.

either way works and coodo's for helping the LC community with your knowledge. wish more would participate as you do.

cheers

Always enjoyed your videos, very well done!

FWIW you can also use Lubro Moly Diesel Purge... I think its roughly the same price as seafoam... I got it from my local store.

Found SeaFoam at Canadian Tire, and got the filter changed tonight, thanks again!

Just bought some today for the heck of it
If I get around to doing the 75s first I will tester out.

I have a variation to the first method mentioned. No bench required, no filter wrench or strap wrench required, just a bit if bush mechanics.
I slip the two fuel hoses off the barbs, undo the bolts at the mounting bracket, invert the pump/filter assembly and loosely bolt it back to the mounting bracket upside down.
It is now secured in an easy to reach position, grab the filter and loosen it with bare hands.
Once it's loose, unbolt the pump, remove and replace filter, re fit pump to the bracket, attach hoses, prime.
job done with minimal tools, perfect if you need to change a clogged filter in the bush and don't have all the fancy filter wrenches and stuff :hillbilly:

Yes seafoam is great, thanks for watching guys! here's a vid from the weekend - a very tight trail.

That move at 5:36 is some pretty fine drivering right there. How DID you get the corner of the flatbed frame to clear that tree?

I can honestly say that the fuel filter video is the only one of yours where I haven't thought, "Wow, thank god he put that one up, I had no clue about that procedure!" But many thanks anyway, I have relied on several of your vids now for help with work on my truck.

Hey thanks for watching! That is one tight trail, thanks to my friends for hanging off the side and keeping tit from rolling- was getting light on the upward side. Just up around around lots of "Austin Powers" turning if you will, patience is needed on a trail like that. I've run it twice with that cruiser and have taken minor damage only on the second run - 2 small dents.

Glad you like them - more coming!
