I got so tired of the those bitchy ass horn for such a big ass truck, so I changed mine to the lexus horns which snapped right in since they are both toyota and now it sounds like a real freeking truck and not a moped.........

Did the 98 have twirpy horns?

My 02 horns sound great.

So do mine. But my other car is an Honda Stream and it's horn sounds quite ridiculous too. This happens with most japanese cars I've seen.

I switched my OEM horns out on my '99 shortly after I got it...the originals sound like they came off a Corolla (or smaller!).

What year Lexus LX-470 horn did you replace your '99 LC horn with? Does it matter...?

Also, did you go thru CruiserDan or another web site? I've searched a few auto parts sites thru Google but nobody lists a horn :frown:

Thanks.

Just got a Wolo BadBoy. It's a compact dual note air horn that looks like it should fit on one of the horn tabs. Haven't installed it yet.

Do a search on "replace horn" and maybe "louder" and you'll get some hits here on mud.

do you think what im thinking :D

Yup. Same thing.

(edit) Sorry, EL_3grab, but your picture is broken. I didn't get the trumpets shown in your first link. Actually got the "badboy" shown in upper right corner pic shown in the second link...

I have a confession to make here on IH8MUD:

This horn replacement will be my first mod!

Yes, I know. Sad but true. But we have generally been quite happy with the stocker setup (mall queen except for driving on the beach). So we've never gone beyond fixing what's broken. Lots of hours have been spent on/in/under with tools and replacement parts. But no mods.

So first the horn, then I'll get to Slee sliders, winches, bumpers, lift, etc etc.

Can someone post up the part number for the lexus replacement horns? or the year model they came from.

I am ready to upgrade these tercel horns.

Thank you,

uzj100

The Lexus part numbers (don't know if they're the same as Toyota) are:
86510-60240 (high)
86520-60200 (low)
Apparently you need one of each. This is how the Lexus dealer ordered them for me (got a good deal because my brother works for one).

Sounds like you could use 2000+ 100 series horns. Ordered from Cdan they would be both OEM and cost effective.

We need to know what year they changed to the "with cojones" horns.

Slowag, How is that horn working out? Any wiring issues or problems otherwise? The price is definitely nice!

Thanks!

I called about the toyota horns and they are $53 a piece. I may try the harbor freight horns mentioned above at 10 each.

The horn in my 03 sounds plenty loud. It even saved me from getting side-swiped by some idiot teenage driver in a Cherokee.

I don't know if they fit a 100, but I swapped the horns on my 4runner with US style horns you find at your local auto store. Worked great and were loud as heck. It actually scared people when they hit the horn because they were expecting the sissy horn sound.

Hey, how about those big-rig air horns. That would scare the heck out of the car in front of you!

The HF horns don't require as much power as the Hellas so no problems yet, they've been in since December '05. The install was a 20 minute splice job....You might search the 80 forum for more info, that's where I got the original idea.

This was one of the first mods i did to my 98 when i got it in 2004.I got the horns from 2004 4runner,they bolt right in.I think i pay $43 for each.I end up getting 4,two for my supra.
