At GSMTR I learned my center diff lock was not locking.
It would shift into low fine but the ABS and center diff light never come on.
I guess the VC do such a good job I never missed it until GSMTR.
I was lucky enought to meet Robbie late Friday and explained in detail what was happening. He got that sage smile on his face and said, "Its the sensor on the front of the transfer."
After coming home to sick kids, then I got , then the wife got it, I finally got chance to check it out last night. Put awire in the wiring harness and 2nd try go it ot light up. So good news. No one has hacked the wiring under the kick panel its just a bad sensor.
Thank you for steering me in the right direction Robbie I probably would have wasted a bunch of time and money on the rear sensor or under the wiring. By the way if any one else is needing to remove this sensor you need a 27 mm wrench preferrably with a bend.

Glad it was so simple.

Search would have also found lots about this and the simplest paper clip test to see if it was your sensor or wiring.

Easy sensor to get at and change out. Cruiser won't let you lock up fronts or rears w/o that sensor working because if it isn't the truck 'doesn't know' the center is locked and will not allow the rear or fronts to lock.

Brentbba,
You got it. I knew the front and rear blinking deal but did not realize the center did all that in addition. Now to search for part #. Dan is out on vacation and my local parts guy can't find it.

The p/n for that sensor has been posted several times here in the 80 section. I'll bet $10 a quick search will turn it up. I think George Scalaro also did a good writeup including the p/n.

Beowulf,
I was working my way through some searching and after reading several threads still no p/n. I checked back here and followed you advice to look at Georges site. I forget about that gold mine of knowledge. No p/n but it has given me inspiration to not give up on the switch but try to clean it, hit it, shock treatment.

I did a search for the p/n. It looks like I owe you $10. :D

Just an update - I've been running the same (original) center diff lock switch since I did the 'zap' clean method and it works solid every time. Used it a bunch on the Oregon coast dunes during this year's trip up there.

So, I think the 'zap' scheme is quite a viable way to bring back life to the switch if it is just a contact issue.

cheers,
george.

I thought we drove around GSMTR this year & diag. the sensor....;) well I had been drinking.

Keep Bodge in check!

27mm, That's huge! The biggest I have is 24mm.

I can look it up this evening - I'm an anal retentive accountant and have the receipt in my files at home.

Edit - searched my PM's also to see if I'd saved anything from Dan. No dice. Will look up this evening

IIRC it was in the neighbor hood of $40-45 for the sensor. Same Part # does go in two different places. PS front of the transfer case and center top rear of the transfer case as well. You want to replace the easy one to get to on the front PS of the transfer case. Easy job.
