I have a Yaesu FTM 200DR/E under the driver seat but the speaker wasn’t loud enough from under there. I tried an external speaker from the local ham store but it wasn’t any better even if I had it on the center console. Decided to use the sub speaker in the center console to keep it clean and It actually sounded much better. I’m not very good with electronics and after some research found out that the sub is a 2Ω and the radio specs out 8Ω so it might eventually damage the radio.
Found this 8 ohm speaker on Amazon that has the same bolt pattern as the sub and sounds great for only $12. Less than the Chinese external speaker the ham radio store recommended.
(Just in case, my sub wasn’t being used since the aftermarket head unit bypassed it. )
3.5mm mono cable and speaker
Comparison with oem sub speaker.
Removed the center console (8 screws/bolts). Removing the passenger seat made it easy to access the side bolt.
Cut this connector that goes to the outside of the sub box and spliced the 3.5m Mono cable to this connector and plugged other side to to the radio under the seat.
Used oem connectors inside the sub box to connect speaker
