I own a 96 black FJ80 i have 2 CEL lights reading the egr and throttle position sensor switch i have replaced the sensor and did the wire and hose swap for the egr but didnt delete the CEL codes? would this leave them on? I also have some the super knuckle rebuild kit coming from JToutfitters...i heard this isnt too hard jus time consuming...ill post up pics when i start the build any help will be much apprecitated! thanks!:)

On OBD-II systems like you have, the stored code will stay there (even if you disconnect the battery or pull fuses) until you reset the ECU. You need a code reader to do this, but if you stop at any AutoZone they will do it for free. It usually takes 2 drive cycles to be sure the problem is fixed then, if the CEL comes back on then it's not fixed.

I don't know about all Autozones but around here they are not allowed to reset them for you anymore.

Not sure that's true... In most cases, I believe the ECU will reset the CEL (code will be turned off) if after fixing the problem, the next couple of drive cycles do not set a new code. I've seen this myself on several occasions with O2 sensors.

Might want to check the vac hoses going to the EGR modulator. If you put them on the wrong way, you'll continue to get a code. Of course, the original code may not have been due to bad wires in the first place, and you may not have fixed your problem.

I can't speak to the CEL issue, but as for the knuckle rebuild it IS time-consuming. If I can do it, you can do it. I am not much of a mechanic but the resources here on MUD are helpful. I printed out the knuckle rebuild FAQ sheets and kept them close by while doing the job. FSM is helpful for a few bits as well. I found that most of the time was spent cleaning.

I like to use OEM parts, but use Marlin Crawler seals. They appear much beefier than OEM.

well i have a code reader for the CEL i had some one read them before thats how i knew so i fixed with a new throttle position sensor and did the egr bypass trick (redneck way lol) but for the knuckle rebuild i have a chilton manual on hand and done lots of research tools wise does it need to be a "brass" punch/drift and where can i find the knuckle rebuild FAQ? thanks for the help!!

well the thing is i have the super knuckle rebuild kit coming and it just says 4lbs of grease? this must be to repack the knuckle with but i also need bearing grease (which can be mobile 1 synth red stuff right?) and idk what kind of gear oil to get?
