Trying to understand what works in low range?

If the actuator is not working and everything else in system has been confirmed to work, you are going to have to test it. Search through my posts and you will find advice on the actuators as I have also had issues.

It is possible to power the actuator with a 9v battery and physically t test if it is working. Sounds to me that you are going t have to pull it and re glue the magnets.
well when I engage the 4L it has the typical driving characteristics of a Low range engaged vehicle: feels like it's binding, takes a bit longer to stop, etc, but no lights come up on the dash ( abs, CDL lock ) she never did it prior to me even doing the CDL switch and even the PIN7 mod. at this point I really don't know what to think. where and how can I test the actuators with the 9V battery?

Here you go. Should be everything you need to figure out the issue. I would be pulling out the actuator.

Grod302: did u ever find out what the cause of your issue was?

Nice. I removed my CDL sensor and smacked it with a hammer a few times. Then it worked. CDL works, ABS light comes on, front locker works, but rear locker light only flashes. So I've got more troubleshooting to do.

I was originally doing this to get everything working in top shape to sell the Cruiser, but spending a bit of time working on it yesterday reminded me how much I love my Cruisers. And it appears my eldest son will now be driving it. :steer:

Has anyone made a manual CDL lever? Didn't some Australian ones have a lever?

Redeye not to be a nit picker, but if you're trying to get a response from someone by tagging them Ina post use the @ symbol then type their screen name and it will notify them. That way in case they aren't reading all the posts carefully and miss your question they're notified.

are you referring to the CDL or are you thinking diff locker for the front and rear e-locker? I can't confirm the CDL manual lever but there were some e-locker manual cable actuators being sold for a while that replaced the electric actuator with a cable and lever.

As far as CDL working or not, mine had and still occasionally has a similar problem. Had it when I bought it, had it after the CDL switch and still occasionally has it.

Clarity on the CDL function

Putting the cruiser in low range doesn't mean the CDL is operating. The cruiser will still act like it's been put into 4 Lo because you have mechanically shifted it into a lower gear. CDL stands for center differential locker. All the CDL does is locks the transfer case into a 50/50 power split. You don't have to have your cruiser in 4lo for this as long as you have a CDL switch. That being said. You can still actuate your lockers in 4hi of your CDL is on and your CDL must engage for the lockers to engage. That being said, don't lock your lockers on pavement ...unless it's thick with snow or something. And the easiest way to get them to lock is by driving a tight radius circle slowly one direction and if it doesn't lock in a couple of revolutions, stop and turn the other direction in a tight radius. You just need to get the wheel turning at a greater differential rate to one another to get the locker to lock. That can also be accomplished on dissimilar surfaces moving straight. Say one tire on nice dry pavement the other side in loose gravel. One tire needs to slip at a higher rate than the other and your lockers should engage. It may be necessary to open up the locker actuators and inspect and clean them and their plugs. Hope there is clarity in what I've written.

the cdl in the transfer case. there's a picture around here of a hf1a with a lever where the cdl motor was.

Never heard or seen of it, but it sounds like a great idea.
